From 16 to 27 September 2024 an ungulate control operation is occurring on public and private land in the Queen Charlotte Track areas. This is from Lochmara Bay to the ridge south of Onahau Bay in the Queen Charlotte Sound and between Te Mahia and Broughton Bay in the Kenepuru Sound (see attached map JPG, 238K).
The operation is primarily targeting deer and goats and will be achieved using both thermal imaging technology to aerial shoot from and helicopter and ground hunting teams with indicator dogs.

Backcountry campsites have toilets and a water supply which may be from a stream. Picnic tables, cooking shelters or fireplaces may be provided.
