The Legendary Black Water Rafting Company is New Zealand’s first black water rafting adventure operator. We’ve been sharing thrills and excitement since 1987, and have experienced guides who will take you safely through the stunning underworld of Ruakuri Cave.
With exhilarating caving & rafting tours, namely Black Abyss, Black Labyrinth and the all new Black Odyssey, to choose from, there is something to suit all adventurous spirits. The Legendary Black Water Rafting Co. is New Zealand's first black water rafting adventure operator. And it's also the only tour that takes you through the incomparable Ruakuri Cave.

We would really recommend to do this.
It was a great experience. We did the three hours tour. We have also seen the glowworms. The group (12) was too big for us, because we had too much waiting time.

We did the caving tour for four hours which was plenty of time.
It is chilly down there, so be prepared to freeze a bit. Warm soup afterwards could be a bit better.

The price!! A lot of time waiting and not visiting the caves. Pictures are an extra $30 and are not good quality - shame!

Nice to have seen the Waitomo Caves and the glowworms on a tour which has to be guided.
The instructors were good entertainers, I enjoyed the activity but was not impressed by any challenge or difficulty!

Great underground scenery, including rivers, waterfalls, limestone formations and glowworms.

Brilliant trip on Black Labyrinth, ably looked after by Tim and Cam.
Some of the kit was showing signs of wear, but given the terrain this should be expected. At each stage there was a careful, but not excessive brief. Not wanting to give anything away, this is a recommendation for a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Swimming in caves with a worm-made night sky.
For once the commercial photos are not misleading. The tour is fun, demanding and a cool/cold experience.

This was my favorite experience in all of New Zealand.
The caves were amazing. What a thrilling way to experience them by floating along in the water. The staff were excellent in guiding us along the streams and keeping us all together. They were positive and funny. At one point we all hooked together in a line (about 10 rafters) and turned off our headlights as we gazed up in wonder at the twinkling glow worms. It was like a night sky!
We also enjoyed the warm soup and showers afterwards!

They added an extra time slot to help accomodate us as it was sold out. Experience was outstanding, great guides to help you enjoy!

We did the most expensive trip (zipline, waterfall, climbing etc) and it was a unique experience.
But definitely overpriced!! A lot of waiting (very large groups).

This was a great experience including abseiling, zip lining and tubing with the glowworms.
It was enjoyable and lasted most of the day. I would recommend this if you wanted a more adventurous way to see the glowworms.

A dream!
Magical! I did the five hour abseiling and toobing tour with Black Water Rafting. This is a must do in New Zealand. 40-60 metres underground. Swimming under millions of glowworms! WOW!

Absolutely loved it!
Amazing experience to float silently through a tunnel of glowworms. Jumping off waterfalls and feeling our way through cave corridors was something I will never forget. Our guides were great, too.

Slightly intimidated by the small opening of rocks leading in to the caves as it was small and I was worried I might be claustrophobic.
But once I was in it was an incredible one of a kind experience!! The information on the glowworms was great.
