Definately the best place in NZ to view waders, be in awesome spot, and get a real insight into the birds beauty and amazing migration.
The visitor centre was really clean and homely and the accomodation amazing. Thanks to Keith and Maria for giving us such experties!

This one is really for keen or interested bird watchers only.
The centre itself is excellent as a friendly source of good information. We have visited three times now when staying with family in Auckland. Time your visit to get to the viewing hide an hour or so before high tide as the incoming tide pushes the wading birds up the beach to provide stunning views of some of the best NZ shore birds and regular migratory visitors. Take a spotting telescope if you can or ask at the centre for a loan. (two visits made Nov 2006 and one Nov 2008)

A 'must-see' for anyone interested in birds.
Literally thousands of birds close to the hide (Check and time your visit to coincide with high tide!)
Could be improved with a bit more information (on the likely sightings) in the hide itself rather than just at the Centre.

This is my 20th trip to the Shorebird Centre and the volunteers and the birds did not disappoint.
