Gabi's Hukatere Lodge is an incredible place to stay, isolated and private on the Ninety Mile Beach.

The lodge is warm and clean with a well-equipped kitchen with everything that self-catering travellers would need. To top it all off, Gabi is an amazing host. Super generous with her time and advice and genuinely wanted you to have a good stay. Thank you and we will be back again. In summary: highly recommended!

The camping ground is nestled between the dunes within walking distance to 90 mile beach.

Great facilities with clean bathrooms, showers and toilets and a fantastic host. There are wild horses and wildlife galore. The sunsets cannot be missed!

    Lovely campsite.

Great warm shower (only one though). Clean and tidy kitchen and toilets. Lots of different areas to camp so feels relatively private from other people staying here. Owner is very welcoming and cute dog too!

Down a gravel road right next to 90 mile beach, very cool wee place overall.

This place was much more than we expected.

Stunning views over 90 mile Beach, went up a little hill at the camp with a bottle of wine and watched the sun set into the sea!

Friendly owner. Little kitchen with tea and coffee. Hot showers. Everything very clean.

Off gris, wonderful vibe. Highly recommended.

    Great quite location.

Clean & tidy facilities. Arrived in the dark after a hard slog pedaling down the beach. A warm shower and a comfy bed was the perfect end to a big day

In the middle of nowhere, along dirt track.

Long way from any shops so make sure you take everything with you. Very spread out on the sand dunes. Lovely peaceful setting - great if you want to get away from it all. Not much to do there apart from walk up and down the beach. Wifi patchy. Facilities good, flush loo and hot showers. Not suitable for children.

Very quiet campgrounds with a short walk to the beach.

Friendly owner, very clean toilets and a hot shower. Also a nice indoor kitchen and eating area. Bonus: very friendly dog that pops in occasionally for petting.

We came here in the height of the Christmas season and was warmly welcomed by Gabi.

We were first time camp ground users and with x4 kids we wanted somewhere safe and secure for our family and belongings. We arrived in the evening with a couple hours of daylight left, so with tents to put up and kids to feed we found everything easy to access, we were able to choose from a number of sites to setup and opted for a location close to toilet, showers and kitchen. The reception was easy to find and Gabi was onsite ready to help us out. We loved the wide open spaces nestled in amongst the sand dunes, the friendly atmosphere and location to the beaches of the far north. It was so good we are planning our next trip back here soon.

We were aiming for Utea but went here by accident!

$30 for the two us sleeping in our car. Great kitchen and toilet facilities. Very friendly and helpful owner. Great camping in the dunes, very quiet.

We decided to complete a portion of the Te Araroa trail from Cape Reinga to Ahipara and planned to spend our third night on the trail staying at Gabi's Hukatere Lodge.

It was our biggest day walking at 30km and we'd pre-booked accommodation and meals (to help lighten our pack load). Gabi made everything about our experience amazing. We let Gabi know our rough eta, and she offered to pick us up from the beach. A little while before we were scheduled to arrive Gabi popped down to the beach to check on us! A couple of texts backwards and forwards and we decided to keep going and meet her at the beach exit. Seeing her car and her thoughtful messages gave us a massive boost after a big day, but as amazing as that was, it didn't give us the insight into how lucky we were to be staying at Hukatere Lodge. Gabi had thought through every possible detail. Our bedroom was beautiful and welcoming and opened right onto the veranda, the living areas were expansive but cosy and well-appointed. An absolute highlight was the beautiful deep bath accompanied with Epsom salts for our tired muscles, a lovely cheese platter and the most amazing feast we could have hoped for. Gabi is so friendly and knowledgeable about her region, it was great to be able to learn more about the local area. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the next morning we had an absolutely fabulous breakfast before heading off on the next leg of our walk, armed with some of Gabi's fabulous local knowledge. We're already looking forward to heading back to stay with friends and family in the future. Thanks for having us Gabi, your hospitality was outstanding!
