We hired a sleeper van from here for our trip round the South Island.

It was nothing fancy a full size matress on a base and some equipment including a portable gas ring but it was perfect for getting around and seeing the country. There are plenty of campsites with various facilities to choose from so the van gave us flexibility to go where we wanted without planning ahead. It was comfortable to sleep in which is all you really need when there's the big outdoors to explore. Abells converted the van to a the sleeper in a day for us to hire. We certainly didn't envy travellers in cumbersome heavy slow campers.
