Free Hot Pools - Take your Sandfly repellent
Nicely accessible hot pools near the main road. Pretty untouched, but try it on a sunny day when the sandfly's aren't quite as thirsty.

Great spot once found!
The confusion around the location I think is because the Apple Maps pin will take you to the start of the Amethyst Rimu walk, a 1 mile long fire road behind a locked gate that takes you to a power facility. This trail features two amazing old growth Rimu, but no hotsprings.
To get to the hot springs, follow the coordinates or the google maps pin. The trailhead you want is the Wanganui Valley trailhead. From there it is a pretty straightforward walk to the washed out bridge, then follow the creek down to the main riverbed where the hot springs are. Some cairns marked the way but may not always be there.

Fantastic.
One of my favourite things we found on our 4 week trip. 20 minute walk from the car park. Beautiful location and absolutely no one around.

Great little spot for a free hot thermal pool!
I think it might depend on the river level, but it took us 20 min to walk to the hot water. We found a shallow pool past the river crossing (a few meters from there) and a deeper one before the river crossing if you want to try and find it it's way deeper!

Found today this beautiful natural hot tub.
There are some marks on stones written therefore it was quite easy to found but you need to cross the river over the stones and than through a small bush walk to the other side of the river. It will take round about 20mins from the electrizity house, therefore be patient and follow the way.
But the flys are very agressiv there. This was the only negative.

Could not find these pools if my life depended on it!
The road has fallen away in sections and when I got to the bridge as what was written in the review below we had no idea where to go next! Got completely lost, but it was a cool walk and adventure anyway :) could someone post new directions if they know how to find these

Park your car at the carpark beside the powerstation and walk a few meters to the entrance with the signs of the walkways, then follow the path until you reach a bridge and follow a small path to the river
where you follow the by hopping over the stones to the bigger river. Then cross a small cold stream and the small stream for the hot temperature. There are several hotspots. Do not forget repellent, the sandflies are beastly!! If you have, take a tool with you to dig.

We visited the pools in June.
A bit difficult to spot them, as they are located in the river basin. Could be that they disappear when the river carries more water. Dig your own pool and you will be rewarded with warm water right next to the cool river. Found one mud-built pool, max. knee deep. Had a great time with beautiful view, sandflies were gentle when we were in the water.

The road that should lead to the pools was cut by fences and transformed into a chicken yard and we could not go through.
Great gravelled coop, some happy chickens.
