We walked to the Mt John cafe to arrive at 14.30 to be told it, and the toilet, were closed early.
When we arrived back at the bottom an hour later the sign said open until 18.00. OK but the safe didn't appear to care.

Had various walks up on the walls on big maps, person advised us to walk up the neighbouring mountain as was a clear day and good views.

Friendly staff but had a commercial feel to it.
It was very busy so maybe they were concentrating on bookings etc.
