It's still a great place.
We only tented, but the field is huge and there are many flat spots. Showers are fantastic and hot. Price is now $15 for one and $10 each additional adult for non-powered. The kitchen is large and well equipped, but has the now-common "non-potable" water signs, so water status is unclear.
Burgers at the pub were good, but the service is indeed... indifferent. It was efficient though.

Quite Big Campsite right behind the dam of a beautiful beach.
Very friendly warden and a big kitchen as well as very old but clean but small facilities.
Pub right next to the campsite.
NZD 10 pp for an unpowered.
If you don’t need power, you can stay right next to the dam behind some high bush wich is quite private then.

Stayed one night.
Great kitchen facilities and despite the appearance, super good hot showers. Everything was very clean. Can hear the waves on the beach and the local pub is across the field.(Great little place. We had an evening beer and went for breakfast).

Free shower and washing machine. There is also a good cooking space with 3 stoves and 1 fridge. The kitchen is big enough to hang out. Plenty of space to park and put a tent. The deco is not up to date, but again for the price for all those facilities, it is hard to bit!

We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed it very much.
If you stay for more than one night you can use the washing machine for free. Dryer is a dollar for 20 min. Good showers. The manager has a good sense of humor and a great smile.

An old-school Kiwi campsite with great atmosphere.
Apart from us, all the other guests were friendly older Kiwis who came there to whitebait. The facilities were a bit worn but clean and well kept - all in all, a real bargain for 8 dollars per person for an unpowered site. Nice place to stay if you want to do the nearby Charming Creek walk (highly recommended!).
