Nice place to stay, very calm but many other freedom campers altough off season.
beautiful beach, toilet a bit far away from parking spot and quite a mess, besides that, very good!

This is a spot that fills up quickly in the busy season so come earlier rather than later.
There are some nice short walks along the coast and just hanging around on the beach is really nice. The morning sunrise was stunning and we sat right on the beach and enjoyed our breakfast - beaut. It's a bit like a big parking lot but off the main road so there are quite a few people here, but we didn't find it noisy.
We were here early February.

Great place to freedom camp!
The beach is stunning (especially for a sunrise), a public toilet at the entrance and two portaloos that were fine. Think there was probably around 12 vans by 9pm, felt very safe and quiet!

Nice location, good beach.
There is a flushing toilet by the entrance to the site, would recommend over the portaloos.

Be on the lookout as this place fills very quickly.
Even while being full, it was very quiet. Had a nice view of the ocean a quick walk away. The toilet is a portajon, make sure to bring your own toilet paper just in case which is why it wasn't a perfect rating.

Oh Dunedin, you really don’t like your backpackers… 5:30pm, both of the other free camps were already full, we had to go to this one for a third night.
A ranger came apparently at 2:30am and we got a 200$ fee. COME ON. Make your free camps a bit bigger or add some but 200$ when you provide so few places for the self contained…!

Beautiful beach, good food and coffee at nearby cafe!

Great location, plenty of room.
Toilet are portaloos only and rubbish bins are small. Convenience store located a short walk away. Beach was patrolled and even saw seals on the beach and rocks.

A really nice location, agree there and more than 5 spots, really nice beach / walk.
It is a car park off to the side of the access road to the beach and as such we experienced many cars coming and going all night including some racing and drifting in the gravel. Note we were here on a Friday night.

Close Portaloos. Rubbish bins. Only rated 7/10 due to the smell of the area was pretty bad.

Perfect spot.
Ideal location as it's an easy 20 min drive to Dunedin to explore and return. Popular but space still available for late arrivals. Quiet, peaceful and great stroll to the beach. Top Spot!

A much smaller area to camp now.
No longer able to camp along the entire road just a small area as you enter.
Still a top spot for the kids and adult kids to run around.
If coming from the south suggest not coming via Law Road. Very step and a crawl and a half for large campers - We ended up on 1st gear !!

What a place!
We loved it there, the beach, the view of the moon rising in the evening and the ease of a restful quiet night.
We didn’t use the onsite facilities as they weren’t overly clean, although it does state you must be fully self contained to stay, so we didn’t mind.
There’s a playground and large field so suitable for children too.

Beautiful views if you walk out to the point and beaches.
Site was very busy and crowded but the views make up for it. Toilets just okay. Arrive early as it was difficult past 6:00 pm to get a spot.

Beautiful beachside location, clean toilets, but unfortunately overrun by a local group of troublemakers who were threatening visitors, blocking access to the road leading to the beach, and driving recklessly
up and down the camping strip well into the night.

Large open spot with access to a nice secluded beach and a big sports field.
Portaloos closeby with a single public toilet at the rugby club building - 5 minutes walk from parking. Very easy to get to and from Dunedin City Center and St Claires.

Great spot overnight.
Agree with other reviews, be there by 5pm. We read reviews that stated this free camping area could only hold 5 RVs, well when we left in the morning, there were 18! Vans, RVs and campers. 2 porta loos here and great place over bridge for icecream and staples.

Nice spot to relax, was only three camper vans there overnight: plenty of space.
The view of the sea is amazing and you can park a few meters from it. The toilet is one flush loo and it was ok, but you have to walk across the domain to get to it.

Stunning views at this spot, nice and level and fairly protected by the trees.
Sunrise was something not to be missed! Says there is seals on the beach however we didn’t see any and there are penguin hides so I assume they come in there too. Beautiful walking around the rocks here. Didn’t use the facilities so can’t comment on those.
