We rented off Rad dunedin branch.
We were emailed a day before with detailed pictures of the car we had chosen, including photos of fuel guage and mileage. The car was waiting for us at the airport. We travelled approx 1700kms whilst we did our road trip. Instructions were clear at drop off as to their expectations re full tank and where to put keys etc. They have been amazing to deal with. Very reasonable price and although our Toyota corolla had 140,000kms on the clock, it never missed a beat. Went like a dream. Thankyou RAD dunedin.we were stoked with your service😆😁😁😁

I am a frequent user of rental car companies and RAD @ Auckland Airport have to be the worst company I have ever dealt with.
Rude and aggressive. Holes in the walls in the bathroom. When challenged about the fuel used they had no skill in customer deescalation or good service or even good manners. Do not use this company. Moving forward I will go back to using Apex at the airport.

We booked online and when we rung to confirm, we were rudely advised that our booking was 'cancelled'.
When we asked why we were informed that they had no cars available and they had 'emailed yesterday'. No apology, and the woman we spoke to on the phone couldn't have cared less. When I advised that I was totally unimpressed with her lack of customer service, she hung up on me.

I have hired many cars out of Auckland Airport and I must say this recent trip has been the best so far, so good in fact I am leaving them a review, I booked online, chose a late model suv and when I arrived
it was better than expected. The vehicle had under 50,000 on the clock, handsfree and blueteeth. The most pleasant staff and wait for it - no add ons... What I paid for the vehicle and its insurance was what I was quoted when booked. The experience I had here was great, keep up the good work and if you are reading this I can say use these guys as they are proud of what they do and it filters through in their product and service. A+ experience

Having read the less-than-favourable reviews for the more well-known international car rental firms operating out of Auckland Airport, I decided to take my niece's advice and book Rent a Dent.
The online booking procedure was straightforward and the pick up from 177 Montgomerie Road, Auckland (about ten minutes' from the airport) was easy, with friendly and accommodating staff. The car was a few years old but drove like a dream and got me to all the places I wanted to see, with ease.
I returned the car on the due date and one of the Rent a Dent team drove me and one other hirer to Airport Check-in. I will have no hesitation in using them again the next time I am in NZ. - John H

Best value for money car hire in NZ by far.
Very professional with cars awaiting us in Queenstown and Taupo at Airports, and car easily returned for collection from Tauranga Airport. Cannot praise their service high enough. A real pleasure to deal with and made for an unforgettable holiday in NZ>
Don't be put off by their name!!!! All are first class, safe vehicles, well maintained.

If I could title this review I would call it "sad disappointment, do not rent from RAD." I requested an economy 5 door hatchback, which is labeled as Nissan Notes or similar 2013 or newer.
When you get your booking confirmation, you don't get a confirmation of what was booked for you - and maybe I should have taken this as a warning sign. What we received was a 2005 Toyota Vitz. All the cars on the website are pictured newer - if the car is old as the kids I teach at a local high school, this is what should be pictured. We sucked it up and took the car - but the service at New Lynn was too relaxed...normally not a bad thing, but you aren't told about AA costing extra until you find out for yourself in the pamphlets hidden in the glove box. There is no manual, and no run through with the car. The possibility of an accident was brought up as a joke by the staff member - totally unprofessional! For driving on SH25 this car had the potential to be a death trap - we are very good drivers, and thankfully the other people on the road were as well or this could have been a RAD disaster. Long story short, please update the cars on your website - none of the pieces of junk in the lot were new, and we weren't rented what we were promised - but as we were told there was nothing else and we had a travel timeline, we sucked it up. Sucking it up for this rental period is all we did however, as we had 2 weeks RAD rental booked in the South Island which we promptly cancelled - you lost our business!

Having read extremely mixed reviews about Rent a Dent I was very wary of using their service but in Palmerston Nth, where we were arriving by train, there were limited hire car options.
The people at this branch turned out to be very helpful, arriving at the station with the car and meeting us at the station when we left.
The car, while not new, was a top-line model, extremely clean and it performed well.
I wonder whether being a franchise company causes people's experiences to vary from place to place, but we were happy with this one.

The way of displaying the main information about the rate of 0.30 cent extra charge per KM after 200KM is not displayed on the section of Daily Rate of the website, not advised by CSR nor highlighted
on the confirmation email/paper contract.
I believe these days every company highlights the crucial information (at least the cost) so customers are aware of it. Everyone knows all the info will be in the long contract which is good to read word by word from top to bottom, however, practically I believe when someone is in the queue in the rental office no one will let the queue build-up and ask a representative to wait until reading the whole contract before signing it (* this is not a contract to buy a house in NZ). Generally, in such case, the representative either advise about the main points like charges or it should be highlighted on the website in Daily Rate section. Also, If the CSR has time to inspect every dent in the car and spot in on the contract paper, I am not convinced saying you don't have time to advise such important info for a customer and just tell that you should have read the whole contract after you charge them through credit card.
I know my mistake was not reading the whole contract when I was in front of the counter before signing it. But, I still think if there is such an important condition about the charges, a company should find an easier and quicker way to convey it to a tourist and anyone in general rather than just saying you should have read the whole contract and it's there somewhere.

Hi Kamal,
Thank you for the feedback you have left above. The information regarding our daily hire rates, kilometre options, insurance options and additional extras are all clearly displayed on the same website page when obtaining a quote or booking a vehicle. You must scroll past this in order to take the next step in the booking or quote process.
We acknowledge that it is helpful for the daily rates, limited kilometres and insurance to be reconfirmed when the hirer collects their vehicle and we strive to ensure that this does occur across all our branches, specifically when the customer is signing their rental contract, so they understand its effect. In this instance it would be helpful to know which branch you hired from in order for us to be able to follow up with staff training at that branch to ensure our procedures are being followed and met. Please email us directly at experience@rentadent.co.nz to let us know.
We thank you for your feedback.
Kind regards, the Rent a Dent Team

Do not trust rentadent nelson, do not give them your credit card, they will treat it like a blank cheque.
Make sure when hiring any vehicle that you get them to sign that they are happy with the returned vehicle and then get them to remove your credit card details from their system

Look, if your looking for a budget car this is a great service, however if anything goes wrong on your trip expect them to be more angry that you are bothering them than helpful.
The Christchurch mechanic in particular was very hard to work with. If all goes to plan then your all good! If not, I suggest doing whatever you need to do without contacting them! They will also nickel and dime you the whole time. Expect to be out more than you paid for the car in hidden fees etc.

Hi Laura,
We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed by the support you received. We have spoken to the branch involved and raised the issues you encountered with them. Whilst we are aware that battery drainage issues occurring in a remote location are difficult for a branch to assess from a distance, it is our aim to provide a positive customer experience throughout the hire and this was not the case for you. We have asked the branch to use this as a learning opportunity regarding how to provide a better customer experience in such situations. Putting that aside we hope that you managed to enjoy the New Zealand scenery and hospitality and overall had a great time in our country.
All the best the Rent a Dent Team

I recently rented a car from your auckland airport branch and had to say how good it was.
Great online booking experience, quickly collected from the airport and taken back to the depot. To top it off I was given a vip card to use while I had my car and I managed to save heaps on my dinning in auckland city over the 7 day stay, I will definately return as these savings meant my rental was almost free! keep up the great work guys. Ant.

I second many of the comments previously stated.
These guys seem good at first, but they sneak in charges. I've used them twice and the first time, as someone else has noted, they charged me an exorbitant amount of money for the little bit of petrol used, like the 20 k's from the station to the drop off. On my second time, they failed to notify me of a 150 km a day limit and upon my return charged me for a few extra k's. When I made several attempts to informe them that I wasn't made verbally aware of the limit, they ignored me. I would suggest to anyone reading this that you pay just a little more and go with another rental company.
