Time: 3 - 4 days (20 hr), Distance: 40 km
This track starts at Whakahoro, a cool place with lots of history, you can camp here at the start of the trip in an old school house. Very busy in the summer, as this is also often a starting point for people canoeing down the Whanganui River.
The hike itself follows old roads, it's a relatively easy hike great for people with varying abilities. The hike goes to the head of the Kaiwhakauka Valley, then drops down into Mangapurua. At this point the track is also accessed by mountain bikers as part of the New Zealand Cycleway.
Make sure you organise river transport to bring you either back to Whakahoro, or Pipiriki.
