This is hands down a MUST-DO activity in Ohakune.

The Old Coach Road bike trail is stunning and suitable for pretty much anyone who can ride a bike. Plus Jane's coffee making skills would leave any Ponsonby barista weeping into their coffee grounds! Quite possibly the best Long Black I've ever had.

A group of ten great girlie friends escaping home for a weekend, anticipating a high energy adventure.

The whole weekend spent on tender hooks anticipating ski weather, snow and winning the America's cup. Hoping to catch some snow and be exhausted from the slopes, weather closed the mountain and our hopes of exhausting fun.

The wind biting and the rain horizontal, full of caffeine and and feeling sad for the America's cup crew... Mountain Bike Station to the rescue! We booked bikes for the 'Old Coach Rd' track in Tongarero National Park. What a treat, nothing a problem, bikes sorted for ten individuals, machines and adventurers transported to the starting point.

Our friendly tour guide, hospitable, friendly and patient! The track was amazing, picturesque, fun and exciting, suited various fitness levels. Bridges, views, bush, a tunnel, this track had it all. Our weekend ended on the high we anticipated. Thanks so much :) Ten happy ladies.

After catching the train from Auckland (flew into Auckland from Chch) we got off at Ohakune and were immediately able to hire bikes from the Mountain bike station (opposite the train station).

We brought groceries in Ohakune and that plus our backpacks were dropped at our accomodation 5km away in Rangataua while we biked there. We did the Old coach road trail the next day in preparation for the big bike to the Bridge to Nowhere. The Mangapurua track was fantastic for our family ( 4 children aged 11 - 17) and although we only had basic fitness and skills we had a blast. The next day we canoed out down the Wanganui river to Pipiriki from where us and our bikes were transported back to Ohakune/Rangataua. The next day we caught the train to Wellington and flew home. We were really well looked after by Mountain bike station, with top quality bikes (mine was brand new) and gear, instructions and experienced knowledge about the tracks. We would definitely come back even though we live in Christchurch. As we had no car we could not afford for anything to go wrong but everything flowed perfectly.

We did the Mountain to Sea Trail just before Christmas as a family group of seven (teens and adults) and loved it.

Mountain Bike Station were 100% reliable, from following up on queries, to getting bookings sorted, to getting food to the right place at the right time etc. They were flexible with our food requirements and catered to vegetarian and non-dairy, delivering everything daily so it stayed nice and fresh. All food and baking was delicious. They offered lifts for the weary (although we all made it under our own steam), and Jane and Darren are genuine, friendly and have a wealth of experience with bikes and all the local trails and history.

    Thoroughly recommended!

We had a good sized group of seven over two days including the Bridge to Nowhere.

The ride was awesome and the service and support provided by Darren and Jane from Mountain Bike Station and Station Lodge made it even better. Darren provided the right amount of advice and support and the timing, pickups and hand-offs with other people organised by Darren and Jane worked perfectly. They are well organised, know their stuff and are genuinely great people. I will be going back to do more and I will also be doing Bride to Nowhere again a few years down the track, awesome ride. If you are looking at different potential options Bridge to Nowhere and other rides all organsied through Mountain Bike Station is a must, forget the rest and call them now to talk through the options, you will be more than happy.

We were organising a 2-day trip for a group of seven, involving mountain biking to the Bridge to Nowhere and then canoeing down the Wanganui river.

Jane and Darren from Mountain Bike Station (and Station Lodge) took care of the whole thing from start to finish, including accommodation, bike hire, transport at both ends, jet boat transport, and canoe hire. Jane and Darren’s organisation and communication was superb, nothing was too much trouble. The accommodation at Station Lodge and the hired bikes were excellent. Darren provided some much appreciated advice and background information for the trip. Overall, Mountain Bike Station and Station Lodge provided a friendly and professional service which was excellent value for money. Highly recommended.

We are still buzzing after completing the Mountain to Sea Cycle Trail.

Darren and Jane Gamble at Mountain Bike Station arranged the trip for our family group of 7, ranging in age from 63 to 46. The variety of activity, scenery, history, terrain and accommodation make this a fantastic journey. Arriving at the Bridge to Nowhere, a must see for all Kiwis was a real thrill as were the jet boat rides and canoeing on the Whanganui River. Would heartily recommend this trip and Darren as a most professional guide.

We stayed at the Station Lodge to ride The Bridge to No-Where & the Ohakune Coach Rd.

The knowledge and hospitality was first class.

The Bridge to No-Where was awesome -great scenery, history & riding, then the jet boat ride & to finish it off our bikes washed by Darren while we soaked in the spa. You couldn't do better.

Next day the Coach Road was another great ride with history & scenery to marvel at.

We were short on time and wanted a nice activity for half a day.

Mountain Bike Station set us up with great bikes and recommended the Old Coach Road trail to us, which was absolutely perfect for the time we had and a gorgeous track. They also gave us great info about other activities in the area, to make sure we'd make the most out of future visits to the Ohakune region. And we got to use their shower facilities after the bike ride. Perfect. Thanks!!

We had read about the Old Coach Road before we left the UK and determined to explore it whilst in Ohakune.

Jane got us sorted with the bikes - both newish and in excellent condition - and on the way to the start at Horopito, Darren gave us a good briefing on the history and also what to be aware of en route. A big "thank you" to them both for such excellent service. We had a great time.

The bikes are really good and you can´t beat that price. Darren and Jane are really friendly and helpful. When we heard about the MountainBikeStation and the variety of trips they offer, we decided to cycle up the Mountain Rd.

The service was excellent, the new bikes perfect adjusted to our size and the Downhill ride was really rewarding after the long 1000m climb up to Turoa carpark. The view is just amazing! I would recommend it to everybody who likes challenges! And if you don´t want to ride it up you´ve still got the transport option. We will definitely come back soon for The Old Coach Road!

We had been hearing heaps about the Mangapurua Track so finally decided to check it out for ourselves.

Darren at Mountain Bike Station was extremely helpful with advice on riding times, track conditions and gear requirements so we felt confident we knew what we were in for. He also organised all the shuttles and jet boat details for us, so we just had to ride. In the van on the way to Ruatiti he gave us a run down on the history of the area, as well as plenty of discussion about other new MTB tracks in the area. There were six of us in our group, including a 12 and a 10-year-old, and a complete range of MTB skills from "total nana on the downhills" (and that wasn't the children!) to expert. Everyone loved the day; we were riding for about 5 1/2 hours all up, but at a very leisurely pace and with plenty of stops to read the track notes. The track is a bit muddy and greasy in places, but never on the uphills, and it all added to the experience. The scenery is spectacular in places, especially the steep gorges the track sidles around. The bridge itself is amazing - but quite strange the way it suddenly appears in front of you!

Thanks Darren for organising a highlight of our summer, we'll be back for more.

Awesome service from Darren & the team at Mountain Bike Station, by the Ohakune Railway Station.

Just as promised, the Old Coach Road ride really was their flagship package: Darren gave us the history of the route while transporting our family of 4 novice riders (incl 2 boys of 12 & 15) to Horopito for the very scenic ride back to Ohakune. After checking our mtn biking experience (practically zilch!) Darren explained everything we needed to know for a fun, safe ride, and decked us out with all equipment required. It's no push-chair track, but AMAZING, interesting scenery en route. My 15 year-old's reaction was "Epic, I LOVED IT!" I'd recommend it as a fantastic summer ride. I couldn't fault the bikes, gear and service we got from Mountain Bike Station. Bruce

When I arrived at Mountain Bike Station I found friendly staff who catered for my biking needs and ability.

They took me to the start of the Ohakune Old coach rd in a well equipped van and gave me clear direction for the trip. The trail offers a beautiful ride through the native bush on a well prepared track, with lots of rail history.

I would recommend it to any one, of any age, and the bike was really great, and thank goodness for that extra padding they gave me for the seat.
