Information

Matemateaonga Track

Time: 3 - 4 days, Distance: 42km

This track runs along the original Whakaihuwaka Road built in 1911 to create a better link between Stratford and Raetihi. After World War one the building of the road was abandoned. This track allows you to get deep into the wilderness of the Whanganui National Park.

Reached from SH 43 east of Stratford. Make sure you organise a pick up from one of the Whanganui River transport providers.

There are lots of steep rough bits on the track, good fitness and gear is definately required!

Nice countryside, nice huts, but this trip was too boring, all the time you have to go in the forest.
