We hired our van from these two wonderful guys who run Bay of Islands Campervans.

We travelled for a month all over NZ with not one issue. The van was so perfectly set up with absolutely everything you needed, and was a perfect in-between size for 2 people. The use of space was amazing. We thought the best 2 things were the permanent double bed which was so comfortable and didn't need to be folded up each day, and the 2 front driving seats that swiveled around to form very comfy chairs at night around the table. Also having a Wi-Fi hotspot was great. There were so many great features included in the price which made this company very competitive against larger more impersonal companies.

The communication before, during and after our trip was spot on. Quick responses to all our silly questions. Hire from these guys, because they care so much more about their customers than the big guys.

Our New Zealand experience went from outstanding to incredible as a direct result of our Bay of Islands Campervan!

The campervan ran perfect and was in top shape with absolutely no issues. The owners were always available if needed and at the end of our 23 day rental they took us out to dinner to better understand our experience and if there were any potential issues. Over our rental we drove 2150 miles and there was not one issue as a result of how their vans are maintained. I could not be more satisfied with Bay of Islands campervans!

We, a Swiss couple, rented a campervan (model Seeker) from Bay of Island for 26 days in December 2016/January 2017.

The campervan was quite luxury and we were very, very content with the campervan. It was much better than expected. It was very new; so new that we hardly dared to touch something at the beginning! The campervan was easy to drive as it was very maneuverable. We also were glad that we have chosen a model with a fix and big bed which we could leave during driving - so we did not need to reinstall every evening. The bed was very comfortable (soft and big). The campervan had a lot of nice extras: tv, camping table and camping chairs and a gas barbecue, wifi, nice and complete kittchen equipment with even real dishes (no plastic!) etc. which we enjoyed a lot - we really "glamped". We are convinced that we have chosen the best available campervan for two persons and we hare happy that we found Bay of Island Campervans!

The handover at the beginning and the end of the rental in Christcurch was a bit strange. There was a very kind older lady; however it appeared that she never was involved in a handedover of a campervan before. She did not really know what to do and what to say. Also when we returned the campervan at the end she said that she did not expected us but only the next day. However there was a very clear handbook in the campervan which explained everything. Also there was the possibility to call the owner of Bay of Island by mobile at any time (which we did not need to do).

Bay of Islands Campervans rents a very nice motorhome including WiFi on board and extras such as satellite.

Unfortunately ours had two issues in the first week (air con and water). For a very highly ranked company I would have expected more service for time lost. It is not about money but the gesture for losing a day in total for detours and not being self contained for one day.

We travelled around New Zealand before a few years ago and had a great time.

This time we wanted more service then from the big company last time. We found Bayofislandscampervans on google and after a few days of email contact we booked. A great choice! we got the service we wanted (and expected)

Good quality motorhomes (German made:-), very clean and tidy.

Not sure if we are coming back in a few years but will book with them again.

    We had a great time!

Spent 4 weeks exploring both islands in a well equipped and comfortable camper van. Rob and Nick had a wealth of ideas for things to see and do and were great hosts at their B and B. We were picked up from Auckland and spent a comfortable night at the B and B,having dinner with Rob after a very wet walk alongside the river. Thanks Rob for meeting us at the end of the track to save us from getting any wetter.

The camper was lovely, a good size for 2 people and had everything we needed, the reversing camera was especially useful along with that fantastic road atlas listing all the camp sites. The bed was a good size and very comfy. Although worried about driving in NZ, the camper was very easy to manoeuvre and even Sue drove on alternate days.Several other camper van hirer's commented on the quality of the van compared to theirs. We returned the van to Christchurch and Geoff was also excellent. The whole trip was relaxing and stress free and we will certainly return to NZ after having such an experience.

With our first two travels to New Zealand (2004 and 2006) we came in contact with two of the biggest hirers and experianced merely policy oriented service!

We just came back from our third New Zealand travel (December 2014 / January 2015), hired a Nexxo and experianced outstanding service all the time - meaning Rob and Nick as well as the relyability of the more than comfortable Nexxo:-)

Let us assure you that not only the Nexxo, but also Rob and Nicks Service are of a different colour: Customer oriented, immediate answers to emails or phone calls and a caring attitude. They always served us more than we'd expected. For this we'd like to say "Thank you" again.

The Wi-Fi is a great bonus: Being able to check wheather conditions of where we intended to travel and then to adjust our plans turned out in having only 4-5 days of rain (out of 35!). The fridge is marvellous: spaceous, running on 12V, Gas, 230V and completely silent. The handling and power-steering of the Nexxo is absolutely phenomenal: Driving such a big vehicle for the first time my wife was hooked and said that the Nexxo is easier to drive than our smart fortwo back home!

Just in case there may arise a fourth New Zealand travel in the future we can know say we found the right hirer and don't need to look elsewhere. @Rob and Nick: If time, money, world politics and our longing for New Zealand will meet again, we will not hesitate and knock at your door again.

We are dissatisfied with the service, they could not offer what they had promised and what we paid for.

    - We rented the Seeker (largest and most luxurious model), but this model was not operating due to a defect. They knew this on forehand, but they decided not to inform us before our arrival

    - They gave us a Explorer (downgrade) and said we should be happy, as they provided a campervan with the same comfort (definitely not!). The explorer is smaller and is missing the comfortable extras such as awning, XL size fridge/freezer and solar...)

    - We received a refund, but this was only NZ $ 25, - (€ 14.70) per day (we travelled 25 days) on a total amount of NZ $ 10.450 (€ 6145, -). The prices are not transparent, so we had to trust them that the difference in price between the Seeker and Explorer is indeed NZ $ 25, - per day.......

    - No compensation provided for the inconvenience and the comfort we have missed during our trip

Thank you for this review. We are happy to read that you talk with praise about us and the preliminary phase, but above all: having a comfortable camper holiday in a great Explorer!

A day and a half before transfer, when you probably just got on the plane, we were confronted with a crucial, mechanical error. Of your reserved, just two-year young Seeker motorhome, the acceleration machine had stopped. Not even 52,000 KM on the counter. So rare that the necessary parts were not even in NZ. No lack of maintenance, planning or wear and tear, absolute force majeure!

It is precisely as a small-scale company that we have taken more than our responsibility in this exceptional situation.

By acting quickly, being personally present in Christchurch (our office is 1300 km away) we have done our utmost to ensure that you can enjoy your planned holiday from the first to the last minute.

Due to the delivery time on parts and the holidays, it was unfortunately not even possible to exchange the camper somewhere on location after repairs, as we have also offered.

Yes, the Seeker camper is bigger and has a larger fridge, awning and solar panel, otherwise it is completely the same. At the end of the holiday, in Auckland, Andries praised the comfort of the Explorer, and said that the only thing he had missed was a corkscrew.

Just like Maaike and Andries, we find it really annoying that, due to force majeure (for the first time in 8 years), we could not deliver the booked model. We have repeatedly offered our sincere apologies for this.

The extra costs incurred for the ferry, plus the price difference between the two models as stated in your offer, were transferred immediately. We therefore believe that there has been no financial loss and do not see why a financial compensation is justified.

By delivering a like you say fine Explorer camper, with the same comfort, we think we have done what we stand for: make your dream vacation to New Zealand an unforgettable experience!

First time New Zealand, first time Bay of Islands Campervans.

An excellent experience, that will not be the last. Rob and Nick have added hospitality and well thought through eye for detail to the camper van rental business. Rob picked us up at Auckland airport and drove us to their nice B&B. A nice meal, interesting stories and a good night rest prepared us for the start of our trip the next morning. The campervan was excellent, no need to prepare your bed every night, a well equiped kitchen, spacious and an easy manouverable campervan. Nice touches were the BBQ and the NZ cell phone. Our 4 weeks simply were too short to experience all, so we need to return in future. Rob and Nick: thanks for everything.

We just returned our Seeker campervan yesterday after a wonderful 10 weeks tour of the North and South Islands.

Just as the other reviewers' comments state, our choosing to rent from Rob and Nick with Bay of Islands was KEY to making this a top quality experience. We did a LOT of research on Rankers before making our choice, and true to their claims, Rob and Nick are a standout choice for quality, service, amenities included (without hidden costs), and small company attention in start-to-finish customer satisfaction.

Upon arrival in NZ, we chose to stay in Auckland for two nights at the Quest on Beaumont (well recommended!) to recover a bit from jetlag. From there Rob picked us up and drove the 3 hours to Paihia where we spent a night at their B&B before taking the campervan the next morning. The time allowed us to enjoy their company and to get more suggestions about our upcoming trip. On the day of our departure, the choices for insurance were well explained and the orientation to the campervan was thorough and unrushed. Invaluable to our comfort and ease of travel were: 1) the on-board Wi-Fi, 2) the cell phone (used to make reservations, call the States, reach Rob/Nick when questions arose, etc.) 3) the HEMA campervan atlas (a bible!) 4) the onboard navigation system 5) the fixed and very comfortable bed 6) excellent gas mileage 7) amazingly powerful and smooth engine, and 8) a quiet ride. At the end of our trip, Rob met us near the Auckland airport where we enjoyed a post-trip visit over coffee before being driven to the Quest for another two-nights stay prior to our flying back home. We will definitely recommend Bay of Islands to anyone who wants to enjoy the ideal campervan experience in New Zealand. Thanks, Nick and Rob!!

Last month we completed our 2.5 week adventure around the South Island in a Bay of Island Explorer campervan and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

This was our first time in a camper van and Nick and Rob were excellent in their communication in guiding us through some teething problems we encountered due to our inexperience making themselves available at all times including late at night and at weekends.

We were particularly impressed how well the camper van was equipped and found the wi-fi, phone, sat nav and tourism radio so convenient. The idea that there were no hidden extra costs made it so easy unlike the stories we heard from some other travellers. We would highly recommend using Bay of Islands Campervans run expertly by Nick and Rob who certainly know their business.

Just returned home after hiring the Seeker Motorhome from Nick and Rob.

Excellent communication with them from when we first enquired right thru to the end of our holiday. The Motorhome was excellent. Just what we required and was very well equipped. Had everything we needed for a fantastic holiday even down to the ingenious way to stop any rattles from the crockery while travelling. The built in wi-fi and weekly allowance was very useful especially for booking our next campsite. The Motorhome was very easy to drive. Just like a car and was very fuel efficient with Diesel costing half what it is in the UK. We opted for the full inclusive so we did not have to pay any additional charges at the end of our holiday. The Motorhome was well admired by other campers during our holiday. Geoff was excellent in Christchurch where we collected and dropped off the Motorhome and he collected us from our City Centre Hotel and gave us all the info and advice we needed before we started our holiday.
