Stayed here in winter, pretty cold off shore wind.
Toilets were gross. Stayed one night, walked to Elephant rock at low tide. Stick to the walls of the cliffs and you won't get stuck in the estry mud.

Great spot by the sea with plenty of room for lots of vans.
Has a few tables to sit down on, basic toilets but no water, showers or dump station.

Good place to sleep near 3 sisters and elephant rock for wait for the low tide.
Toilet are quite smelling but you can manage.
Great view, but you need to be there early if you want to have some place left in front of the sea (be careful if you Park on the grass when it's wet)

Lovely place nice views can be a bit windy right on the front Unfortunately we pick the wrong tide times so could not get out to see the three (now two) sisters

Loved this for past stays as astunning place but went to camp today and the whole grassed areas for freedom camping is boggy and unsafe to park on ...only a couple of campers managed to parknon an uneven
clay area. The public carpark is bring dug up so lots of tractors and noisy machinery so could not even find a park to walk to the 3 sisters at low tide. Don't let my review put you off this beautiful place but have a Plan B during winter and wet times

Amazing beautiful location with excellent walk on the beach, but the facilities are basic.
Long drop toilets. Grass can get muddy but space for quite a lot of vans. Can only use the grassy carpark on the right side by the toilets for overnight stays, not the furthest carpark.

Decent size for motor homes.
Area split into two, one side for self contained vehicles only, the other appears to be no overnight stay, but there is a sign explaining this. No water, but has three drop toilets here, which are clean enough. Was great for us, as we would have been arriving in New Plymouth late, so this helped us out. Black sand, can walk out to the ocean in low tide, place is nice

We pulled in, saw a mud pit for the SC site and decided to keep driving.
Based on signage, it doesn’t seem like the small community wants the freedom camping spot.

Get there early as it’s popular and fills up around 4pm.

Tidy little spot right on the river mouth at the start of the walk out to The Three Sisters.
Has toilets and picnic tables. Ground was very boggy in some places. Also recommend going for a walk under the road bridge to the little Tongaporutu settlement - there's a signposted walkway there.
BTW the 3 Sisters are well worth it, the first 50m can be very muddy but if you take your time and stick to near the cliffs you can avoid the mud.

Great little spot off of the highway, two large areas to park up right on the waters edge.
This spot has a cafe/ice cream shop that appears to be open in the summer which I imagine would be great on a sunny day.
Toilets are onsite and are long drops. The stench is overpowering once you lift the toilet lid and the view down the drop will forever be ingrained in the back of my eyelids every time I try to sleep.
Otherwise a neat little spot very close to the Three Sisters rock formation, which is quite a cool thing.

This spot is a complete gem, wonderful magical spot , clean long drop toilets, we were there on a Sunday so busy with people on day trips, 2 lovely kiosk one for coffee and ice cream etc the other hot
chips and burgers etc all very reasonable in price. Had a wonderful evening walk to see the 3 sisters , totally recommend staying here, everyone was very friendly .

Fantastic spot with stunning views!
Public long drop toilets in great condition but pays to park as far away from them as at the time we stayed the was abit of a wift in the air!! Coffee an burger bar near by, expensive at $16 a burger but worth it!! Please note, as per strong advice by locals, be VERY carefull walking around to 3 Sisters rocks, MAX 2 hours before an after low tide but be carefull as if the tide comes in you will have no where to go!

This is the best place to camp to go see The Three Sisters.
There is limited parking and the bathroom door has a hard time opening, but those are the extent of the problems. The walk to see the three sisters is about a 15 minute walk through sand, but can only be accessed at low tide. It is one of the most beautiful beaches on the North Island, and I definitely reccommend seeing it at sunset if you’re able to.

Awesome free place to stop on the way through.
Nice view of the ocean, clean flush toilets, plenty of toilet papar, quiet and away from the main road. Rubbish dump is just up the road cost $1 to use.

Good little spot to ring in the new year.
A few locals going crazy with fireworks but there’s not much out here but a strip of a few houses. Plenty of parking. I made the mistake of parking under a Manuka tree and found flower droppings all over my van for days after. No potable water, the bathroom is about 100 meters away, and no trash bins. At the turnoff from the main road there’s a dumpster for recycling and one for trash, but to use the trash one you have to insert four $1 coins. That’s probably why the little trash can in the bathroom was overflowing in fast food wrappers. Great walk out to the three sisters at low tide. Some neighborhood kids went hunting for clams in the mud at low tide and came back with a huge bin, maybe if you know something about that this spot could benefit you

Appears to be two different areas with room for probably 10-15 campers combined.
Right on the estuary. Bathrooms are basic. No cell service. Great access to the three sisters and elephant rock at low tide. Worth a stop just for this, just don’t get stuck out there. 11/4/19
