There is a long gravel road leading to this place, there was a sign at the beginning of the gravel road saying that they camping ground was open.
Once we arrived there was a "closed" sign yet the gaten was open, we we're confused. There was also a note that if no one was there, you could set up in a nice spot and pay whenever the staff is present again.
We did set up and achter a while there was a woman approaching us on a quad. She greeted us kindly and told us they were actually closed. We said that we would of course leave then, but we we're allowed to stay anyway, which was a very kind gesture. We paid the next morning when they were back open.
The area itself is magical, you feel even more in Middle Earth than in the Hobbiton movie sets.

We spent one night here after visiting mt Sunday.
Really enjoyed staying here, facilities are clean en owner is very nice. They have a bar, restaurant and pool table. Views are amazing.
Take into account that the last 23km of the road is a gravel road. It's well maintained but still quite bumpy with a campervan.

We loved our stay!!
Mt. Potts lodge is definitely open as of December 2023 (Rankers may list otherwise). After a visit to Mt. Sunday we stopped on a whim to grab a beer and ended up having dinner, playing pool, and also staying overnight in an unpowered site. The views were incredible and the service manager onsite was so friendly and helpful. Restrooms and shower was clean and plenty of hot water was available. Highly recommend!

This lodge is a surprise!
I did not expect to find such a beautiful place in the middle of nowhere, also known as Edoras. A really nice setup with outdoor (roofed for the rainy days) cooking and eating facilities, lovely camping spots (watch out for the cheeky holes in the grass) and the beautiful main lodge. It also has, regardless where you're sleeping, the best views of the stunning area!
WiFi runs over Sattelite which makes it quite expensive. But there's a bar where you can get everything you desire. The bathroom is just a little unclean (full bins).
Really friendly Lodge-Manager! Would definitely come again!

What a great spot!
The campground is located just a few minutes away from Mt Sunday which was actually my personal highlight on our NZ Journey. The manager is a really nice and helpful guy; the whole campsite‘s going to be renewed so the facilities weren‘t able to be used, but we were allowed to use the facilities of a cabin. Free hot showers, free barbecue and free encounters with highland cattle ;) Additionally it‘s quite far away from any towns or villages, that‘s why we could see an incredible night sky! The manager also told us that there is a restaurant in the summer. Really want to say thanks for the nice stay :)

This was possibly the best surprise of our 2 week trip.
Hot shower, good clean facilities, ultra nice owners and they serve great local beer! For Lord of the Rings nerds (like us) it was the location for Edoras and the whole valley is spectacular. Also caught 2 trout less than 1km from the camp. Dirt road in is easy and well maintained.

very friendly and helpful host... she gives a lot of information about the area. Close to Edoras/Mt Sunday. Only a little bit expensive..... paid $35 in the middle of October for a powered site for a campervan and one person.

Awesome location near Mount Sunday, also known as Edoras from the Lord of the Rings movies, owned by a nice guy.
However, this place is too expensive for what you get. Despite the rather high price for a campground, the Wifi has to be purchased extra, not even a small amount of data for free. Additionally, it does not really work/have good connection on the campground, although we put our tent directly next to the lodge. The showers and toilets were okay, not really dirty but also not really clean. Hot water was available though. Considering all facilities, you pay quite a high price for a location in an awesome landscape.

Stayed here at this out of the way accommodation on the way to Mount Sunday.
Lovely hosts, quiet location, lodge nicely set up, views. Five minute drive from Mount Sunday and that whole spectacular area.
