Pitched a tent at Plateau Lodge for $19.

The service was amazing. They have private spa pool for 30minute bookings included, a clean and equipped kitchen and dining area, clean bathrooms and showers, a drying line, really everything I could have needed. A great spot!

    Absolutely fantastic.

We stayed here for two nights and we loved it. The reception ist very helpful und kind. If you stay here for one night, the whirlpool is included in the price. After the 20km long "Tongariro Alpine Crossing" track, it was so relaxing. The showers and toilets are clean and like new.

Initially we booked a stay for 2 nights but had to leave one night earlier.

Very friendly and supportive staff. No fees charged for that cancellation. The Camp site has only few spots for campers but they are really nice. The camp site has a little SPA area (Whirlpool). You get 30 min. free access when arriving.

As others already mentioned a very well equipped and clean kitchen is available.

Toilets and showers are very nice and clean too. A drying room for laundry is available.

We would definitely come again for another vacation.

Emailed ahead and got the last space for a 2 night stay as we were doing the Tongariro crossing.

Staff very helpful and we got the shuttle service booked with pick up right across the road. Free hot tub was lovely after the day’s hike. Only 2 showers but never had to wait. Used the modern washing machines/dryers. Water connection for each site but no dump station for miles! Did the Hike bought the T-Shirt.

We stayed here because we had a guided hike the next day with Adrift Outdoor Adventures which is literally 5 mins down the road.

The sites are VERY small especially for our 4 berth campervan! Facilities are adequate with plenty of free hot water in the showers but are limited to 2 shower cubicles. Kitchen small but again perfectly adequate. Absolutely stunning location with views of the mountains.

A very new and nice camping ground.

It has a kitchen with a lounge. The kitchen is fully equiped with 2 stoves, a microwave and a lot of dishes.

I saw 9 places for campervans. You can reserve the whirpool for 30min private spa.

The toilets and showers are locked with a code and are clean. A small minus is that the showers has too less hooks or some other space for clothes

We stayed here because other campgrounds were full.

The positive side: bathroom and kitchen facilities are new and clean. It’s basically a glorified parking lot, but clean and fine. However, due to the rudeness of the woman at the front desk I wouldn’t pay them money again. We arrived late and parked in the lot, paid for a night and a ride up to the crossing. After the (glorious!) hike the next day we came back to a practically empty campground. We’d lost the bathroom code and went to get it from her. She refused saying our checkout time had expired. There were maybe 3 other people there and we had just given her $100 the day before. It was insulting and unnecessarily rude. There are many other much more charming spots in the area, I suggest going elsewhere.

    Reviewed almost 7 years ago

Yes we do not let guest who have checked out use the bathrooms as you have not paid to use the facilities that day or night. Your dont need to like the place, our comments state what a lovely place we have we small and located at the foothills of the volcanoes.

    Booked a site.

Informed them of our vehicle size. Told on arrival at 6pm that they did not have a site, even though we could see an empty one that fit our vehicle. Hopeless and not helpful. They made up some lame excuse about a casual making the booking, bullsh!t as I recognised her voice from the booking phone call. Do yourself a favour, do not bother, book Whakapapa instead.

Provided with both relevant safety information and general crossing 'tid bits' that settled our nervous departing group! Very friendly young local couple making a good go of it.... RECOMEND!
