Great facilities at knock down prices.
I paid $10 to park my campervan in their back parking lot (they have power) and then $5 for access to their ample kitchen, laundry, toilets and hot showers. Bargain. I also enjoyed a few handles and a great feed in the pub next to a roaring fire. Would recommend 100% for anyone looking for a no frills place to stop on the West Coast and an authentic NZ pub experience. Staff were polite and helpful and locals were friendly.

Stayed here for the experience rather than the facilities.
The pub is great. I was lucky enough to stay when they had an all you can eat buffet for $25. Seafood chowder was a stand out. $10 to park my van around the back. In hindsight I could have stayed in the freedom camp park across the road with brand new public toilets near.

I stayed in my van for the night.
$10 access to shower and kitchen basic but that's what you need! Also possibility to do laundry for $2 (+$2 dryer). Owner was very nice and patient helping me out with the laundry. The pub was busy (Friday night) with family local workers. Very awesome atmosphere! I got a nice burger for diner and i choose my ingredients :) 10pm exactly everyone went inside the bar and it was very peaceful. Next morning nice coffee on the terrace of the bar with amazing Waffles! I highly recommend this place, it's a very authentic and great place to stay!

Cool place!
Stayed in the parking lot across from the pub. Ate and drank with the locals. Buffet was $25 and included whitebait fritters! Just a bit further down the road is a place to fill your water tank and dump site as well as a short goal mining camp walk.

$10 pp on an unpowered site right next to a lake/former Gold Mine.
Fully equiped kitchen and hot showers. Construction and improvements are going on at the moment.
The best is the lovely pub with a billiard table, piano and a cosy fireplace. Went there after dinner and were invited by the owner for a local beer.

Friendly owner, friendly pub.
Powered spots are horrible! Stay unpowered at a spot near the cute lake with your van. Cheap, but toilets and showers old and dirty. Nice atmosphere though.

Amazing (for the price)!
This is a backpacker place. Small cabins ($20pp) or camping $10pp. They have clean, hot showers, a kitchen (with power outlets), laundry facilities ($2wash/$2 dry), and a bar. What more could you ask for? If you're looking for 5*, keep looking, but if you are a backpacker on a budget, this is the place for you! (Some people do live in cabins and work in the morning, but there is a grassy lot across the street if you really need it). Friendly staff, friendly residents, and really cool bar!!

A few camper spaces opposite some cabins.
The construction work is ongoing (i have a feeling it has for a while based on the last review.. ) showers were great, site $10pp and $5 for power, showers included. X2 toilet with shower rooms which made for queues in the morning. The kitchen was ok. Washer/dryer out of order. A tired and strange place.

This is such a funky space opposite the Historic Empire Hotel!!!
New bathrooms that are spotless with great hot water and new shower. Kitchen is large and well equipped. The camping area is small but beside a small lake and the town is round the corner. Friendly pub and good food.. A great find....

Awful place!
The lady at the hotel was only interested in grabbing our 20 dollars. It's basically the hotel's backyard, with old, dirty and shabby facilities. Rubbish bins full up so rubbish on the floor. No curtains/door in the shower. Cheap price and cheap facilities. Avoid this place.

The camping is the worst I have ever spent a night at (2 out of 10).
$20 for 1 person with a campervan is too much. The toilet was dirty and couldn't be locked. The bar was full of character 10 out of 10. The owner very friendly and the best food I had in New Zealand (10 out of 10). No info on the hotel itself because I camped. But camp here only if no other options are available.

Nice new hot showers, excellent price. Laundry needs more care. Overall: satisfaction. BTW: the Historic Empire Hotel was really something, a real treasure.

Arrived late on a Sunday proprietor told us to park across the road from his pub for free in lieu of purchasing a drink which we did.
Also was invited for their Sunday Roast which was 3 course for a total price of $20. Meal was fabulous. Both husband and wife very friendly and highly recommend for all campers.
