This is a walk-in, Great Walk campsite in the Route Burn valley, on the Routeburn Track in Mt Aspiring National Park. Bookings required in the Great Walks season.
A predator control operation using toxic bait containing 1080 was completed on 9 March. Caples Routeburn Dart area is open to the public with warning signs in place at key entrances.
There may be toxic carcasses and bait (green coloured pellets) in the area. It’s not safe to hunt for food in this area for up to 10 months. Warning signs and this web alert will be removed when the area is safe again. Dogs are not allowed in this area at any time.

This is due to bridge work near Emily Creek, midway between Routeburn Flats Hut and Routeburn Falls Hut. Construction will begin in 9 September 2024 and last 5 to 6 weeks. Timing to be confirmed.
During this construction period, a section of the track will be closed between Flats Hut and Falls Hut. You will not be able to walk the entire track end to end.
You can still walk into Routeburn Flats Hut from the the Routeburn Road end (Glenorchy side). Or you can walk to Routeburn Falls Hut from the Divide side. For more information, contact the Queenstown Visitor Centre.

Except for the Milford Track and Paparoa Track, all Great Walks offer camping near huts or in designated areas. There are nearly 60 Great Walk campsites offering basic facilities including toilets, handwashing sinks and a water supply with some being treated and some untreated. Untreated water should be boiled before use to ensure it's safe. Some have picnic tables and cooking shelters. These do not include the indoor facilities provided at Great Walk huts.
