Notices

  • Abel Tasman Coast Track – Bark Bay to Onetahuti – Track maintenance

Due to track maintenance, parts of the Abel Tasman Coast Track between Bark Bay and Onetahuti will be rough and muddy after wet weather.

Follow all instructions from staff and contractors.

First published on 25 July 2024. Last reviewed on 24 September 2024.
  • Torrent Bay bridge replacement

Torrent River Bridge on the high tide track between Anchorage and Torrent Bay, giving access to Cleopatra’s Pool, is being replaced.

Cleopatra’s Pool and access track, along with sections of the high tide track will be closed to the public between 29 October and 12 November 2024.

During this time the whole construction area is a WorkSafe NZ notifiable site and entry is strictly prohibited, for any reason.

An alternative option for the high tide track involves wading through the Torrent River, this is available four hours either side of low tide. Note there are some slippery rocks, and that river flow may fluctuate depending on rainfall and tides.

Small camp site with the indervidual sites being quite private.

Right next to the torrent bay inlet which is beautiful at high tide when the water comes right up to the campsite.

One of the least used Abel Tasman campsites due to it not having it's own beach and being close to the Torrent Bay village (privately owned holiday houses).

    Walking

But is very quiet as a result. Cleopatra's Pool is a great little freshwater swimming bonus that's just a shortish walk away.

    Kayaking

Not recommended unless you time the high tide for arrival and departure. You'll have sore arms by the time you drag your kayak up here!
