In the middle of Auckland town is a view that rivals that of the Sky Tower, for free....! Just off Mt Eden Road you can cruise up to the top of Mt Eden a dormant volcano, its a very popular walking spot with the locals. At times you will bump into massive tourist buses, other times this place is your for the taking. Bring a wine up with you and watch the sunset. You can walk down into the crater, there is also some evidence of old kumera pits.

    Good view from the Summit.

    We had lunch and came across a wedding ceremony which was lovely. Pretty park.

    We were climbing Mt Eden in early October, it was bad weather and a long, hard way, the walkways were in bad condition, but in the end it was worth it.

    We were too late to see the sunset so we had to run to the top of the hill.

    Great activity when we just arrived in Auckland.

    Seeing Auckland city centre from a distance was much nicer than actually being in the city centre. Free parking.
