I organized the first group of High School kids and parents to stay overnight at Motuti. In a 24 hours the "city slickers" from sophisticated Los Angeles suburbs were immersed in living on the land and Maori Culture, Motuti style. The transformation by both children and adults was nothing short of amazing as the visit connected them with the land, the Maori people and culture and made them reconsider their values. Of their 10 days in New Zealand, the day at Motuti was considered the highlight and their fondness for the people they met is still evident. Subsequently I spearheaded a Rotary project to help create the newly opened Carving Center at Motuti and have been back to witness its development. The people, the land, the culture provide a richness and warmth for all visitors to experience and might make them reconsider their values. Experience Motuti - its very special.
