I'm Marios, delivering the best of Aotearoa's nature walks to your device.

This unlogged block of podocarp forest has some fine examples of towering rimu and matai, with a kahikatea fringe.
The start of the track is signposted 100 metres before the Okataina Outdoor Education Centre on the southern side of the access road.
There is parking at the Education Centre.
The wide leafy track weaves through dense forest for 40 minutes and joins the Western Okataina Track 10 minutes south of the Education Centre.
Head right to return to the start of the track.
A dense green mat of ferns carpets the forest floor, which is otherwise sparse because of browsing by deer, pigs and wallabies. Near the southern end of the track, a fenced area shows how the forest floor looks when saved from these introduced browsers.
Panels by conspicuous specimens aid species identification for those keen to learn.
