Morere Hot Springs

A treat not to be missed – gorgeous hot and cold springs set amid 364 hectares of rain forest. Rare in the world of hot springs, the Morere Springs produce 250,000 litres a day of hot ancient sea water. Known for its therapeutic values, the water is piped to a series of public and private hot pools. It is definitely worth taking a walk on any of the various walks in the Morere Scenic Reserve, from 10-minute walks up to three hours. Especially famous for its nikau palms, the dense virgin rain forest is home to a wide range of native birds.

Notices

  • Mōrere Hot Springs closed

Morere Hot Springs are closed due to potential contamination from the failing septic system.

We expect the pools to open early 2024 when a more effective system will be in place.

Visitors can still access the walking tracks by the alternative access point on Tunanui Road. Parking is on the roadside, do not drive up the dirt track.

Small, not too touristy and very beautifully located between Nikau Palm trees.

It is a lovely place to relax for a couple of hours. The walk to the Nikau Pool is amazing!

It was a hot day and we only fancied the 20 min loop walk but there was a charge for it and we walked away as why should we have to pay for walking through our own NZ bush!

The walk up to the top pools through the forest (only 10min) is well worth it.

We had them all to ourselves, and it was a lovely amongst the nikau palms. bathroom and shower were clean. one of the nicer paid hot springs I've visited.

Set in really nice bushland which has walking tracks within it that lead you to the hot springs.

Fossiled seawater that bubbles up from the ground 30-40 degrees - very hot and good after a long journey.
