1.5/5
Worst campground we‘ve been while bikepacking NZ (3 month).
Especially the bathrooms were disgustingly dirty.

Given a two not a one star because the owner was a friendly sort, but boy this place is really tired and dirty.
Kitchen, bathroom everywhere needs ATTENTION. The bins were overflowing but actually I wasn’t surprised as there’s a real lack of care here.

For our first ever night freedom camping we could not have picked a better spot.
Ok, so the weather was great, but being able to stop by the beach is amazing and to wake up to the sound of the waves crashing just a few meters away, wow. There is a single toilet, but no other facilities. Enough space for about 20 vehicles

The place was filthy.
A dead bird by the kitchen, feathers in the showers and flies in the kitchen. Someone had left a stack of dishes in the kitchen which was still there in the morning. Place was rundown and in need of a good clean. $35 for a powered site expensive for what you get. Can't understand why it got such good ratings, (94%) when we booked. But for us it was the worst place we've stayed in. I think some reviewers have confused it with the freedom camping site close by.

Have been here in June and had like 5 other campers around.
It was beautiful to have the beach and the waves so close to our Campervan. Stunning view in the morning!
Check the forecast for wind before coming here, windy place! We had 21 km/h, was okay. Would definitley come back.

Great spot, friendly and no frills.
Very basic kitchen and ablutions but all you need at a great price. Kiwi camping as it was.

Very convenient campground close to the main road from Te Anau to Invercargill.
The owners also run the pub next to the site which has very nice food and well kept beer.
Colac Bay is worth a walk along as it is very pretty.

This campsite is no frills, but has absolutely everything you need.
Only two showers and toilets in the ladies, but didn't need to queue so not a problem. Good, solid kitchen and lounge facilities, and having a local pub next door is always a bonus.
Is dog friendly, as there were a few running around whilst we were there, but responsible owners made it easy.
Only the road noise made this campsite rate a little lower. But then it is right next to a main road, so we had no illusions about it being peaceful or quiet.
Flat, grassy non powered tent site cost $30 for two adults.

Interesting wee camp site, the pub is also used by the locals.
Jilly, Wazza are very welcoming and Wazza makes mean burgers. There is also a surfers beach at the bottom of the road. Price fair.
