Very lovely place to camp.
Bush walks, swing bridge, playground and flying fox for the kids. (Take your kids bikes) bonfires, river to swim in. Only down thing were the toilets. Maintenance person just hosed the toilets down. I went in after they hosed it and there was shit stains all in the bowl, on the walls, all over the toilet brush and toilet paper holder. Disgusting.

Lovely campground by the river and swimming hole with nice short walks nearby.
We used this as a base before starting the Paparoa track. Only $7pp, great clean toilets, potable water, BBQ. Slightly urban and bar across road which could be a plus or negative depending on the night?! Some road noise. Note this is community run on a council site, with DOC walks nearby, not a DOC camp.

The Nelson creek campsite is an interesting place with lots of bush-walks, gold mining relics and a well constructed children's playground.
The site is large and offers several camping areas but it is also a bit uneven with plenty of boggy hollows to avoid. The facilities are basic with flushing toilets and drinkable water. There is also a dump station onsite. Good value for $6 per person per night.

Initially was going to stay at Iveah Bay, but it was car park type camping.
So glad we drove the extra 30 odd kilometres. This place is so well maintained. Flushing toilets, wood supplied and beautiful walks. Unfortunately some people stayed without paying. Heaps of room for privacy. Definitely recommend, and if you have kids there is a fantasic play ground area. Support the community for this great place. Only $5 per person.

Great stop-over.
Nice campground with minimal sandflies next to a large, winding creek. One block of flush toilets with wash station; hot showers available at the motel across the road for $4pp. Campground has plenty of room for parking, with some picnic tables and fire pits available, also has a play structure and flying fox. Suggested nightly camping cost $6pp / $15 family. Would stay again.

Awesome spot with toilets and BBQs plus a small kitchen area.
Had dinner at the Nelson Creek pub across the road - very friendly owners. good selection of beers. Probably a better spot for camper vans as ground was very rocky which made it harder but not impossible to pitch a tent.

This place is really worth it.
It is big, has green grass to pitch tents, toilets, sinks, a nice playground. Plus, the manager was so helpful and kind: I called him because my car battery had died during the night. Despite the heavy rain, he came to the campground and jump started my car in the early morning.

One of the best unpowered spots we've camped at so far!
River next to you, opportunities to make a fire, flushing toilets, anything you need. Showers available at the hotel for four dollars (donation for campground says should be minimum five dollars, considering how cheap that is, absolutely reasonable price for shower).
Would stay again!

A great place for camping, We have visited twice in the last month for long weekends.
and cannot fault the place. It is a nice basic campsite in a fantastic location. Worth more than the $5 donation they request from campers.

By donation campground inside little town.
One of our favourite sites during our trip. Right on a creek set for swimming with warm weather. Small rock face to jump into water from. Little cave across stream to explore. And a little zip line there as well! Large area, some coverage. Nice full toilet facility. Large sink for dishes, etc. rubbish/recycling bins. Don't think directions were quite right (our first attempt at finding took us down a dirt road with a sign marked "Try Again Rd", the correct turn-off is a little ways south of that). No one else there in April. Beautiful place to stay, highly recommended!

Perfectly functional campsite in a lovely location with really interesting walks through historic gold mine workings.
Rusty relics from those pioneering times add to the interest. (Torch could be handy for exploring the deep mining trenches some of which are actually caves). Lovely river for swimming and gold panning. This is a community run campsite that is maintained by the locals to fund local projects and improve the campsite. As of March 2013 they were planning to instal a shower block and barbecue unit. What is really nice is that they charge by donation even though it's way better than many commercial sites. Hopefully people donate accordingly and it will encourage other communities to provide similar facilities. Right next to the pub for community integration!
