Nice campground, arrived late-ish and the owner was very friendly.
$30 for 2 people powered site, paid with cash.
Toilets and kitchen all a bit dated but wasn’t an issue for us.

While I had a relaxing and mostly enjoyable stay here, I really can't recommend it because of what felt like pervasive maintenance issues.
Pros:
* quiet beachside location
* friendly caretaker
* free washing machines for laundry
* free unlimited hot showers
* bins available (rubbish only)
* spacious kitchen with sinks, 2 ranges/ovens, microwave, fridges
Cons:
* no drying machines (clothesline available)
* kitchen is missing some basics (I don't just mean cooking utensils: no soap, missing jug/boiler, no towels)
* feels poorly maintained (details below)
I don't just mean the facilities are dated; that's fine, I'm not demanding modern luxury renovations or anything. I'm referring to things like:
* light switch in laundry room doesn't work
* one of the men's showers had a couple slugs in it crawling on the walls, which was quite disconcerting (showers need cleaning and holes to the outside plugged!)
* kitchen is "half-stocked" with cooking utensils: there are bowls, plates, pans, toasters, and a microwave, but everything else was basically junk and it would have been a lot nicer if it was simply thrown out. Things like rusty cheese graters, dirty slow cooker and toastie machines, a steamer insert, old bottles, that sort of thing
* several electrical outlets in the kitchen don't work
* there is no system to clear old food from the fridges and something had definitely gone off in one of them at the time I was there
All in all, the price point of $25/night feels too high. It's probably fair if you make full use of the laundry and showers, but I can't hang dry clothes in the rain so the laundry was essentially useless for me. Meanwhile, all the maintenance issues added quite a degree of unpleasantness to the experience which I haven't experienced at other campsites, even simpler ones at $20, $15, or even $10 nightly. I feel like this could be fixed if the ownership took a bit more pride in making the camp feel presentable and pleasant.

We just spent five nights here and LOVED IT!
True kiwi camping as it should be. No mod cons but who needs that when you can have free hot showers, free laundry washing, laid back genuine hospitality where nothing is a problem and everyone staying was respectful of others. A hidden gem away from everyday hustle and bustle and cell phone reception.

What a lovely place!!!!
Ocean view, beautiful view over the sea, clean (but simple) facilities and free laundry. Everything we need is here. Very cheap, I would say it's underpriced. The owner is so friendly, we feel at home here!

Beautiful spot to spend the night!
Lovely grounds in a very peaceful location right next to a black sandy beach.
Powered sites for $20 per night for 1 or 2 people. And easy access to water on each site.
Facilities were reasonably clean and showers were hot.
Would happily stay here again if in the area.

It was great to stay in the campsite!
We met lovely people and share nice experiences with them! The campsite is in a beautiful place, the beach is next to it and Mt. Taranaki is not far away. Thanks for everything Phibi! Alba and Marta ;)

Lovely campsite near the beach and town, but feels away from it all.
Great price considering it includes hot showers and kitchen space. The lady running it is also a gem - couldn't recommended this place more!

Only $10 per person for an unpowered site. Clean sanitary facilities, nice hot showers and a big covered kitchen dining area with all facilities. Next to the beach. Owner is a real sweetheart.
