Very friendly, responsive and practical owners.

GREAT price for powered site, only $21 for one person. Bonus of being the flattest campsite I’ve parked in to date, genuinely flat. Toilets and showers clean and hot! Only criticism was couldn’t find a tap to refill water, no dump station either.

Pro tip: their camp shop has the yummiest freshest eggs!!!

A pleasant site for a campervan overnight stopover.

Kitchen and toilets are small and a bit weary, but very reasonably priced ($30 for two persons for a powered site).

    Very clean.

Small site, check in at the store. Three cabins and no permanent residents. I usually tent but it was starting to rain and knowing it would continue for 12 hours i opted for a cabin. Great decision. Cabin came with linen. Wireless worked well. Power was lost a few times but came on line quite fast.

    This is our second stay.

The campground is great. Nice people who run it. Clean and newish facilities. Has a friendly cat and resident weka. Cheap. Will stay again when passing this way. There is a nice walk to be explored to.

One of the best campsite i have seen in NZ (i have seen more than 30 campsites), clean facilities: hot shower, complete kitchen with even an oven, free unlimited wifi and all this for 12$ per person for

    an unpowered site

This is the 2nd time staying at the Matawai Camp Ground since the new owners took over.

Very reasonably priced, exceptionally pleasant and helpful hosts, great facilities on offer. A little gem that's worth supporting. Dog friendly.

I came from Whakatane by bicycle and was very tired when arriving.

The place was very lonely and although I got a hot shower I had to pay NZD 25 just for one person and the tent. The place was old, dirty and really by far the worst camp site I have ever seen.
