A week ago finished a stunning week at Broken River.

Excellent place, great snow and good value. We're into adventurous terrain and great no frills skiing so it was exactly what we were after. Powder skiing in Allan's Basin was AWESOME - the highlight... still thinking about it. Loved the scenery too.

We found the staff were fantastic - really helpful and friendly. The food was great - thanks Ray. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly in the accommodation huts and Palmer Lodge on the field and we felt part of the "family". Great to have lessons. Everyone's skiing made huge progress over the week, especially the kids.

If you're a purely commercial skier interested in all the frills then BR may not be the place for you, but if you are after something different then I'd highly recommend it. A classic slice of Kiwiana.

We've made lots of friends and we're certainly going back for another week. We aim to be up there soon. Have heard the spring skiing is awesome.

I had a great days skiing the frozen tracked basin after it rained on tracked powder and froze in 2008.

Place is a time warp, tows are still fast, good for city legs to burn.

This year planned to take my teenage daughter up there skiing for a weekend, live in Southland so its an expedition. Plans were screwed by the faceless civil service standards that they apply to their booking system. Their fax wasn't working so they couldn't receive a credit card details. Despite knowing my intention they wouldn't wait even 24 hours to get phone contact for credit card details. Although they had the booking by email. Excuse was "The Rules".

So be warned, cash is king at Broken River and service certainly is not. Don't get afoul of their RULES because even if its their problem its yours!
