I went on a kayak fishing trip with canoe and kayak Bay of Plenty.

The trip started by meeting at their base at 0750. They were very helpful and flexible about meeting times and venues. Transport to the kayaking location was provided. The guide (Dan) gave an excellent and comprehensive briefing and gave very good instruction on kayaking and fishing. Despite being a novice at both kayaking and fishing plenty of fish were caught. Dan gutted the fish so that they were ready for me to cook when I got back home. The trip was hugely enjoyable. Not only did I see lots of local wildlife (stingrays and penguins) and landmarks, I also learnt a huge amount about kayaking and fishing and got plenty of fish in the process. The trip was easily the best one that I have done whilst in New Zealand and I would recommend it to anyone.

    BLODDY FANTASTIC!!!!

10/10. Dont look anywhere else, go with Canoe and Kayak. This tour is a must do when visiting the BOP. Steve (Head Guide) and Bobby (2nd Guide) are absolutely the guides you want taking you out on this tour. Their knowledge and personalities shine through and make people of all ages and from all walks of life feel at ease. They do all the work, you just sit back and enjoy your tour with laughter and knowledge thrown in for the paddle down to the glow worms and when you get back, there is delicious hot chocolate and a bikkie waiting for you. Its so enjoyable, we are DEFINETLY booking them for another tour, ocean kayaking this time.

We looked at their competitors before booking and chose to go with Canoe and Kayak because we found them to be way more personable, cheaper, steve takes free photographs for you to download, he takes care of your valuables for you and is very informative. WELL DONE to the team at Canoe and Kayak!

Did you know that the competitors charge more for their tour, charge the clients extra for photos and offer you alcohol before your paddle? Hmmmm not good!

If you want to do this experience, I really recommend going with these guys.

They were much cheaper than the other companies $75 in comparison to $120.

They thought of everything we would need insect repellant, jackets, storing important items, hot chocolate for afterwards, they even take photo's for you and email them to you at no extra charge.

Both the guys taking us were really friendly, chilled out and knowledgeable about glow worms.

The experience is relaxing, and takes you through really beautiful scenery. If you have already seen glow worms in New Zealand before the cave has about the same amount as other sites I have been to, but I still thought the it was all a worth while experience and overall a great night out.

It was a magical experience on the Glow Worm Canyon Kayak Tour.

Saw scores of glow worms by the sides of the canyon, stars twinkling above a lovely starry night and reflecting in the lake waters. Steve was a wonderful guide who took very good care of us, ensuring the entire trip was interesting, safe, warm and enjoyable, making my first time kayaking experience extremely enjoyable. Hot drink and chocolate made it an excellent roundup at the end of the trip. Would love to go again and definitely one of the highlights during my NZ holiday.

November 2009, me & my dad went on a kayaking trip to the Glow worm Canyon on Lake McLaren.

When we were on the lake, the tour guide told us all to steer clear of the rocks, but we bumped into the canyon a few times! My dad had to push us backwards. We could see trout in the water, swimming past us, the water wasn't very deep. When we go to the canyon, the sides were quite straight, with trees overhanging. The right side didn't have a lot of glow worms, but the left side was almost covered in them, blinking on & off. It was very cool to see. When we got back to the car, they gave us all very hot chocolate, which was too hot for me to finish, but it was good. I definitely want to do it again.

Our 8 year old Daughter had never kayaked before and loved it.

Our 11 year old son had done some kayaking at a School Camp earlier in the year and loved been back on the water.
