This track starts 40 km north of Haast Junction, where the northern end of the Haast to Paringa Cattle Track is located at a small car park just past Mimi Creek.

You can reach the Moeraki Valley turnoff within two hours easy walk from the car park. The turn-off is sign posted on the left just before the swing bridge. There are several huts along the way which are all spaced about 2-4 hours apart at Horse Shoe Flat and Middle Head. You need to be slick with your navigational abilities as there are times when you have rivers to cross and open tussock land to cross.

The river will be impassable after rain. You are advised not to attempt these tracks without a Topomap G37 'Landsborough' and certainly not unless you are suitably fit, experienced and properly equipped. Good luck!
