Time: 8 hr return
This is a great walk that starts fairly gently through the bush, then starts a serious incline for a few hours up to the top of Alex Knob. The view from the top is amazing over the Franz Josef glacier - this is well worth the walk on a nice day.

Loved this walk.
Amazing views on the way and the view from the top was well worth the effort to get there.

Excellent hike, so nice to work up through the various layers of forest to the sub-alpine tussock grass.
We had a great day with little wind. Would not do if it was cloudy. Helicopters are annoying at start, but fade as one gets higher.

Although we walked just to the first lookout (Rata lookout) it had already a great view of the Glacier.
There were only a few tourists. You have to watch your steps (roots and steps) and climb a few times.

Not a lot of people on the track and at the viewpoint.
We nearly had the glacier area to ourselves. Very nice swing bridge, quite new, amazing viewpoint, some slippery parts.

Excellent walk and views from the top.
Said to be an 8 hour walk, it took us about five. Please be aware of the helicopters flying over head for much of the walk, not so good for the serenity of a bush walk. But we still thoroughly enjoyed our walk.

More of a climb that a walk but the views of the glacier are beautiful if it is a clear day.
The helicopters make it quite noisy to begin with, but that soon stops as you get higher.

Nice walk with half of it being uphill, the other half downhill.
Great view at the top and a good bit of exercise. Not much variation though in this walk.

Nothing to see, two lookouts, the rest is forest.
You cannot see more than from the ground and the helis are annoying!

Really, really exhausting.
You have got just two lookouts and the rest of the time you just see the forest and go uphill.
