Information

Around the Mountain Circuit

Time: 4 - 5 days, Distance: 45 km - 49 km depending on if upper or lower track is taken

The Around the Mountain Circuit is a 4 - 5 day backcountry track for experienced trampers through forest, rivers and spectacular alpine scenery.

The route is best tramped during the summer months.Rivers and streams are not always bridged and can flood at any time of year. In winter conditions on upper tracks on the mountain may be snow and ice covered – ice axe and crampons are likely to be required.

The Around the Mountain Circuit can be accessed from several road ends in Egmont National Park, but traditionally begins at the North Egmont Roadend approximately 30 min drive from New Plymouth. Drive south on State Highway 3 to Egmont Village and turn right onto Egmont Road which will take you to North Egmont.

Great mountain to look at, for hiking not so spectacular, apart from the view over the whole region.

    My favourite track.

The nature is wonderful, you have so many changes on the track and there not so many people on the track. The huts also were very nice.

For people who like the bush, solitude and great views.

Beautiful chalet type cabins equipped with mattresses and wood for fire and running water (drinkable).
