Welcome to New Zealand's most comprehensive database of freely available camping information. This is the only travel map of its kind in NZ.
Camp on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, New Zealand’s longest lake. Explore the area along the Caples or the Greenstone tramping tracks. Swim, kayak, fish or go boating on the lake, or enjoy the scenery.
Kinloch Camping Ground is a great place from which to start the many walks around the area such as the Greenstone or the Caples walks. The campsite is along the edge of Lake Wakatipu and is an awesome area to just relax, have picnic and check out the amazing views.
The nearby Kinloch lodge is available if you wish to purchase meals and drinks.
Kinloch Road has been affected by flooding. Part of the road has been completely washed out. A bypass road through a paddock is now in place and access is open. Work on the road is still required and contractors are in place, please allow time to travel through this section.
Check the Queenstown Lakes District Council Facebook page for more information and updates.

Great spot on the lake.
Has two long drop toilets and an untreated water tap. Great views of the lake and mountains and not far from the Routeburn Track and Glenorchy. Gravel road in is fine, just take it slow!

Enjoy :)

Very small campground so if you arrive late there will be no spots.
However, I can imagine being great if there are only a few of you - as there is a guesthouse nearby where you can enjoy meals and coffee with a view and then your site is across the road next to the river.

Quite a way down a gravel path but well worth it.
A truly beautiful spot, by the peaceful lake and surrounded by mountains.
It has a nice little resturant next to it which served lovely food. The resturants lodge also offer showers but you have to pay.

Not the best, but you get hot water, flush toilets and even some body soap and hand soap. Showers only from 8.00-10.00am. There is no electricity socket if you want to you use blowdry. Views are amazing, few wooden tables and benches in the meadow.

Magnificent spot, right on the water, very private.
We were the only ones here. Mountains by starlight were astonishing. Simple toilet but that’s fine. Gravel road in is high quality and fine for any kind of vehicle. Plenty of turning space.

What an amazing little spot.
Room for a few campers. Picnic tables and fresh water supply. Not that cheap but managed real-time by the lovely lodge. You can pay them directly instead of using the box. Advantage of lodge bar, cafe and restaurant. Great walks right here plus cycling.

We had the entire place to ourselves and so parked right next to the lake.
A really beautiful spot with stunning views over the lake. Very useful to have the lodge nearby, both for the coffee, warmth and wifi. Very friendly staff! We didn't need the toilet as we are self contained but when we checked it out it was a little smelly!

At the end of the road from Glenorchy, there is a campground (low cost), in front of Lake Wakatipu where you have toilets, you can make a fire and there are amazing views!

We stayed here to be near the start of the Routeburn.
It scores only for the beautiful setting. The sites were boggy and uneven and not pretty. The toilet was a filthy long drop ammonia plant. We were told we could get a shower at the nearby lodge for $5 each, and found that the price had increased to $10. The lodge attendant was reluctant and rude and the showers in poor condition.

A potentially great site, and free (with campsite pass) but poorly maintained.
Boggy ground and smelly toilet as well as sand flies made it an uncomfortable stay. We found better facilities up the road at the start of the overnight walking tracks - although only people doing the hikes can park there.

The sites could be better maintained, quite muddy in the rain and quite some inclination.
Lake Sylvan campground would be the better option in the area

Beautiful setting on shores of Lake Wakatipu, however it was extremely cramped and busy and a gentleman came up and asked us to move, very rudely as we were blocking a boat ramp despite there being no
signpost or indication to support we were.

Beautiful setting at the northern end of Lake Wakatipu on the shore next to the Kinloch Lodge.
The only facility was a basic toilet and the restaurant at the lodge which closed at 6:00pm unless previous arrangements had been made. Being self-contained and the only ones there we felt it was worth the long drive in from Queenstown.
