Nice place with bar and food on site.
WiFi ok. Modern but limited ablution block facilities, you may have to hold on if camp is busy.

People were friendly at reception.
Non powered sites ($20 for 2) are where most of the permanents are so we went on a powered site to be closer to facilities. Wifi only works in the Cafe and spa and sauna were broken. Nice kitchen/communal area, toilets/showers clean.

Staff were friendly at check in.
Told us where to park but it was full so ended up parked on a powered site. Facilities are nice but people live here and there’s a bar as part of the lodge, so can get a bit noisy.
The people on the site next to us started blasting music as 2.30am and woke everyone up. Then the people in the cabins started yelling at them to shut the f up and turn is the f’ing music.
When I went to the toilet at 2.45am, I got chased by a large dog that bailed me up in the corner and I couldn’t get away. I was terrified but luckily a guy came and scared it away.
We probably just had a bad experience but we wouldn’t stay again.

Has this place changed owners and names?
Now called Tui Base Camp. Great spot with a friendly bar lady. We parked up, plugged in, then hit the bar for bangers and mash. Best sausages in NZ is the word on the street. Showers look good with nice clean toilets. Dump stations and water fill up. Located right across the street from 4 Square.

Very charming nostalgic ambiance, spacious green spots for campervans, excellent food in the restaurant which is a nice change after cooking each evening (venison was super).

The camp looks great, however, we STRONGLY reccommend to don't go there.
The owner's got some serious mental issues, without joke. He seemed like that 'old-good-grandpa' guy but when we were chillin in tv room he suddenly appeared and started to insult us like "fu**ing peaces of s*it" and yelled at us to "p*ss off" etc. After that he started maintaining like nothing happenned. He literally ignored our suprised questions to explain that and as we didn't want to argue we left the same day. VERY unpleasent experience. I thought all Kiwis are great but I guess in every nation you find some people like him. Still love NZ and Kiwi's tho! Keeping optimistic

Stayed on powered site for one night, charged us $38 for two people in campervan.
The guy said there was wifi when there was none!!! He was not a happy chappy, lacking in customer charm (happy enough to take our money though) Toilets are dismal - metal cages a bit like a prison, we couldn't find any showers. There was a beautiful Stag in the next field which was lovely to watch. The site was laid out nicely with grassed sections, flat and quite spacious. Thought it was expensive for what it was. It could be made much nicer - bit of a shame really.

We arrived late and there was nobody.
Then someone came. We paid A$ 30 for a place with power for our campervan. It was very cold and snowing. The main building and the bathroom was not heated, but there was at least warm water. It was too cold in the bathroom to take a shower or to wash. The kitchen was well equipped and everything was clean, including the bathroom.

A cheerless place.
Poorly lit. The main building was freezing cold despite there being a stove (which wasn't lit for long). The metal showers and toilets had a prison-camp feeling. Not that cheap, for what it was.
