Of course it's not a castle.
Very impressive place.
Great gardens and house, well worth visiting.
Just great - the history story is great.
Great place on the Otago Peninsula.

We needed a microwave in the stable accommodation and I emailed them.
They weren’t very accommodating and said they have no microwave in the rooms but did not suggest a staff member to warm my granddaughters meals up. We cancelled our booking and emailed them. Did not hear back from them.
A bit disappointed as I wanted to go.

The only castle in New Zealand.
Beautiful inside and a lot of history. They tell you everything and you can spend so much time there.

In the Larnach Castle - the only castle in New Zealand.
I felt almost the same way like when I was visiting some castles back home. This place and the owners have very interesting history.

The only castle in New Zealand is in Dunedin (Otago Peninsula).
Have a coffee at the ballroom. The best coffee I had in New Zealand. To see just the castles garden cost me $12.50, if you want to see inside as well, it will cost more.

Quite expensive but well worth it - the house / gardens and ball room are beautiful.
Can easily spend a few hours here. History of the Larnach family is fascinating. You are welcome to take photos in the 'castle' but not use your flash - why would that be? None of our photos came out as it was too dark inside which was a shame.

We had to pay $12 each just to view the gardens, because the castle was closed.

Of course it's not a castle.
Its a grand manor house with mock battlements. The inside of the house is very ornate with incredible carved detail in the woodwork. There is more to Larnach Castle than the house. There is the ballroom which houses a cafe like no other cafe. There are the gardens and the incredible views from various places around the gardens. What a site to build a house on.

Well restored and excellently presented.
