Great little spot, so happy we found this place, beautiful little garden for tents, clean and pristine and right by the beach, seperate area for cabins and a few spots for campervans.

Really lovely owners who are welcoming and respectful. Right by the best spots to visit. Sad to read any negative reviews out there, those people are clearly not into camping.

Awesome spot to hit the trails and beaches from a great little boutique spot for camping ,cabin or vans.

Clean toilets, showers and kitchen, a little lounge to kick back in. The hosts are knowledgeable and friendly.

Nice little park, stayed one night well priced.

Powered sites and cabins. Ammenities are a bit rough but clean. Coin operated shower and washing machine. Lovely staff very helpful. This is only a small park so bookings are essential. We enjoyed our stay here.

Under new ownership and wow what a difference!

Beautiful wee cabins, all run off solar, facilities lovely and clean. Hot showers, run off token meters but who cares, these guys rely on rainwater so it was a pleasure to do our bit to help conserve what they have. Owners are so helpful, great local knowledge of the history of Puponga .. all I can say is we didn't want to leave your piece of paradise! We will see you again next year for sure!! Thanks again for the most relaxing holiday!

Great little spot to stay, located in the best location to experience all outdoor activities in walking distances.

Beach across the road, Farewell Spit lookout 5min walk, Puponga coal mine 15min walk, horse treks 10min walk, Famous eco tours pick up outside gate. Cape Farewell and Whararariki Beach 10min drive.

Camp has 2 kitchens, small lounge, and nice large sheltered powered sites. Camp primarily on rain water so showers are $2, to stay cost per adults per night is $20. Cabins are awesome brand new $85 a night. Loved our stay Nicky the manager is great.

Place was ok until confronted with a problem with the showers, didn’t ask for money back, just told them.

The gentleman men was VERY impolite. $2 for a 2 minute shower. I would not recommend this place in light of the services rendered. Up the road there’s another campground.

Promoting in eco friendly Campground rather Looked like the campowners been lazy in dealing with Rubbish disposal.

Paying the same amount of money as a real Campground but getting just a very small space to stay.

    Old kitchen.

2$ for 2 minute shower - but unlimited water for cleaning the dishes?

The light in the shower (to the most right) is always on Eco friendly?

Clean and tidy place but a bit on the pricey side for what you get 25$ pp non powered site.

Showers are extra at 2$ and very short (understand rainwater in this area so conservation is important but 2m is a very short shower!). Neat little kitchen but rubbish to be taken away with you and no chance to dump or fill up water.

Met owner of Farewell Gardens in January 2022, she seemed lovely, and we loved the camp ground.

Called and made booking in April and told they had availability for our family of three for early January 2023. My partner and I organised time off work for our dates at Farewell Gardens. Owner contacted us in August to say that there was only a 3m x3m campsite available but that, in her experience, that’s as much as three people usually need. I responded that if we’d known in April that a 3m x3m campsite was all that was available we would have booked somewhere else for our summer holiday. Have been looking forward to our Farewell Gardens holiday all year and now we have to scramble and, hopefully, find somewhere else to stay in Golden Bay for these dates. Total lack of transparency and terrible communication. Definitely wouldn’t recommend.

When I walked into the reception of Farewell Gardens camp for the first time, I thought that I entered into a beauty saloon by mistake.

(I am not native english speaker and i apologize for some mistakes)

There was a gorgeous lioness with a flood of blonde hair. What a pleasant shock :). She gave me all info about local tracks, what is worthy of visit and when. Border collie Flossy was really very friendly, but probably not for my charming personality, but because I was eating bread with salami. I stayed two nights in a funky caravan. Nice change in comparison with my soaked tent. You can't expect Top10 camp facilities, but for me the friendly atmosphere and fantastic surrounding beated all those small negatives. Tent sites are nice, private and sheltered against wind. You can feel peace and quiet here . No hordes of kids running around yelling. No wifi but hey, that's what are we looking for, a place to unwind from everyday's cruel worklife filled with duties, right? Facilities were pitoresque :), but very clean and no silly "insert 2 dollars for hot shower", but be reasonable as they rely only on rain water. You will not hear airplanes or constant stream of cars, only whispering of sea. A few steps away is Port Puponga waiting for you with many tracks and walks. Wharariki beach is just a 10 or 15 minutes drive (depends how mad are you). I was leaving with heavy heart and I will return for sure!

I really didn't like this place much.

It's basically a families spare lot with room for maybe 8-10 campers. Small spaces, no picnic tables, nor bar b que grill or anything much in the way of facilities. The site is located across the street from the beach and within 1-7kms of DOC access sites. The area is stunning but with lots of open areas you'd probably be better off freedom camping.
