Super easy - we pulled up, put $30 for two people in an envelope and parked.

Not a lot of people there but a few and everyone was lovely. Had a great sleep in nature, had a hot shower (be mindful of water use) and a full kitchen. Also good bathrooms!

Beautiful campsite in the forest near a river with perfect water for a refreshing swim.

Location for us somewhaf hard to find with google maps/maps.me, but ithe entrance is next to the Waipoua Visiter Center. Campsite is reachable through a proper sealed road. Many places available when we arrived (7 pm). Hot showers, toilets, tap water, shared kitchen with stove.

Camping lost in the forest but nice spot with a kind boss.

We payed 15$ pp for powered site (cheaper than all the campings we went). Hot showers and clean toilets and kitchen even if it was a bit old.

To clear this up the land has been given back to the Iwi.

The visitors centre is no more and only the second site is open !!!! This is a quiet sight, 2 minute walk to a stream. Has a kitchen, toilets ( with toilet paper) and free hot showers. It’s “rustic” but we like it. We turned up and only 2 others here but by 6pm there were 4 more. It’s $30 a night ( only £15 English) There are mosquito at night though .

Great place and even greater people!

We had a problem with our campervan (after only owning for 1 week) and everyone here was so helpful! Thanks especially to Dave and his son for filling up our engine oil. Very relaxed, authentic camper site with genuine people who want to help. Facilities were also up to scratch! Expect lots and lots of mosquitoes in the evening ;)

    Couldn’t recommend this campground enough!

Best place we’ve stayed in the whole of the Northland.

The turning into site is just after the bridge over the river (or before if coming from the south). Follow track along, past visitors centre, to the campsite.

Park up in one of the many little nooks and spaces amongst the trees, we had a great little spot away from other campers with privacy.

FREE HOT SHOWERS!! Couldn’t believe our luck! Facilities are relatively simple but clean and comfortable. Nice kitchen and toilets/showers.

Pay in cash using envelopes by the female toilets or you can pay by card in the visitors centre which you passed on your way in (open 8am - 4pm). We paid the next morning, be sure to fill out a form wether you’re paying by cash or not.

Was lovely falling asleep surrounded by Kauri trees and to the sound of kiwis.

And all of this for $13.50 per adult - such a bargain!

Only drawback was the mosquitoes as it’s near a river, be sure to bring repellent!

Pretty basic / rustic but not bad for the price - $15pp for unpowered site.

They had powered sites (for an extra $2.50pp) next to the men's washroom but plugs were all together on the building so you better have a long cord if not parked in the closest spot. Kitchen was OK, electric stove/oven and kettle but no toaster. Washrooms need some repairs/ maintenance (and missing soap!), but usable and hot water for showers. Was nice to walk down to the river but not really close enough to campsite to enjoy beyond a quick visit. Bring a torch to find your way around after dark as there isn't much lighting (good for sleeping though!) Lots of mosquitos after dark also but have experienced this elsewhere in Northland so not surprising. Very quiet at night, there was only one other camper there besides us.

    Reservations are not possible.

There was no one present who manage the campsite, there were only guests. We paid using an envelope provided on the campsite and chose our place to stay the night. There seemed to be only a couple of powered sites. Sanitair was old but functioning. Showers had several gaps in the doors, so privacy was limited.

This has the potential to be a wonderful site.

Great location with limited competition. Well maintained grass areas for tents and camper vans. Also has a kitchen area and shower/toilet block. Unfortunately there seems to be a lack of basic maintenance to the building ie louvres missing from ladies shower doors, no locks on men’s toilets and the building are starting to show signs of wear and tear. Such a shame, as could be lovely.

Lovely area accessed by short dirt road.

Facilities are so old and bereft of any obvious maintenance BUT it’s a place to stay with clean ablutions (lots of hot water) and a laundry. Go to sleep with sound of Kiwi calls.

It is much more expensive now, they raised the prices, 25$ per person for a powered site and 20$ per person for an unpowered site.

The often recommended night forest walk is now about 20$ per person and it didn't take place when we've been there. But it is a quiet spot, near to the big Kauri trees. Hot showers are unlimited and free. WiFi works well around the Café 300 meters down the road.
