Book if you going to be there outside of monday to Friday 9 to 4.
The site and facilities are very clean. Showers are $1. Non powered is at the back of the site next to the cabins while powered are at the front, closer to the road. The np have large trees. There are a number of friendly permanent residents. $18 for non powered. Wash and dry are $2 each. It is the Showgrounds so can get busy.

Huge camping/van area with lovely mature trees.
About 5km out of Gisborne centre. Not flash toilets/showers but clean. Washing machines, dump station and rubbish recycling. Airport close but not too noisy. Office only open Monday to Friday 8-5 so MUST book in as swipe card needed to enter grounds - can be left in a lock box. Friendly, helpful staff in the office.

Quite good value, although prices start at $18 for an unpowered tent site.
Very quiet apart from planes coming in to Gisborne Airport nearby during the day. Campsite is expansive, by the A & P Showgrounds. Kitchen and TV lounge with showers and toilets, all kept very clean. Wifi but I had trouble logging in, it might pay to consult with the owners, who are very friendly and enthusiastic with good local knowledge.

Very friendly guy who greeted us, very casual park, we stayed off season so could park anywhere in the area and meant we had a lot of space to ourselves.
Clean facilities and huge kitchen.

Stayed there for one night.
It's a nice place with friendly people. $20 for each of us, shower for extra ($1 for 5 minutes). Toilets and kitchen are clean. You have free Wifi, but it is limited to 100mb.

A highly overpriced campground that seems to thrive on the fact that there's not a lot of camping options around.
The staff were quite rude to us. The campsite was actually just the parking lot for an event a center. If you're on a trip it might be best to just drove through Gisborne.

The camping area was fairly spartan and uninspiring however the amenities block was fantastic.
Superb facilities. Although the showers were by pay meter they were amongst the best that we used across New Zealand.

We stayed here 2 nights, in February 2010.
It was very quiet, as our host told us, it gets really crowded during the events on the showgrounds...We had a great powered site under a huge Norfolk pine, lovely landscape around. Met nice and friendly long-time campers, and since this Campground is huge, we had a walk around, also the non-powered sites were very nice, under very old trees. the main facilities were a little bit far from our site, but we could have parked nearer, and we had at least toilets and showers nearby. Gisborne city is a 10 minutes drive. LOTS of stars to see at night, since the camp is a wide space there are almost no sources of artificial light around....And good sleep, no noises around!!
