Camping at Doneraille Park is from 23 October - 30 April.

You must have a permit before you set up camp. Apply for a permit on the website link above.

There's no charge for a permit. You must comply with all the conditions on the permit and in the bylaw.

You need to manage your own waste and rubbish.

Camping is allowed in tents and vehicles - chemical toilets are required.

Doneraille Park is on the Tiniroto Road, 61km from Gisborne city and 52km from Wairoa. If you're heading towards Wairoa, turn right into Ruakaka Road, the camping area is on the left side down the bottom of the hill.

Native bush beside the river, trout fishing and swimming. Check 'Can I swim here' for water quality information.

We encourage zero waste.

You need to manage your own rubbish. No bags are issued with permits so you need to take your own.

You’re responsible for taking your rubbish away with you. The closest transfer station to sort your rubbish and recycling is Gisborne city

Cute quiet spot, was nice to park under the trees and listen to the river.
A few visitors came to swim but it was just us staying overnight.

Good to have a small campfire going and the toilets were decent, as well as running water being available

nice and relaxing area,, about 2 years ago watched a couple up river a bit doing something i hadnt seen before,, they were gold panning,, they were really enjoying themselves,, looked so relaxing,, dont
know if they got anything,, but have often thought about going up myself,, just for curiosity..anything for relaxation and fun

.. at least if you stay in the southern end of the are, according to local signs.

Bonus: flush toilets and dumpsite both for grey water and chemical toilets! (Why the info states you need your own toilet is beyond me..)

Nice place, big, almost flat. Would have gotten a 10 if the ground hadn't been a bit soft in places.

This is a really nice place to camp beside the river, where it's also possible to swim.
There are flush toilets (so we don't know why some of the information we read about this place mention needing to bring a chemical toilet in order to camp here) & water on tap, but it wasn't clear if it was safe to drink, so we didn't. We got the Gisborne Council permit for camping from the iSite in Wairoa, which cost $16 for two nights of camping. (Buying a permit for one night wasn't an option.)
