Great view.
Friendly and funny staff. Clean amenities. Be careful with the showers because the warm water might be a bit buggy. Therefore better carry an extra dollar for a second warm water supply (you'll get it back at the counter).

Friendly staff.
Not too crowded on Friday night mid December. $30 per person is the best deal in the area imo- falling asleep to the waves and waking up next to the beach is amazing. Kitchen and paid showers are ok. Lots of friendly dogs around. Will stay here next time we’re in the area.

Receptionist was really friendly, great atmosphere and beautiful location.
Powered site for two adults was 52$ and we had a great view of the sea with sunset. Kitchen, toilet and shower was very clean! Shower time is limited, but that didn't matter to us. In addition, the receptionist was very relaxed and we were allowed to check out the next morning at any time when we wanted to. We were very happy about that and had a very relaxed next morning. You have to pay for the wifi and the network was not so good...but personally that didn't really bother us either.

As second visit here to this kiwi iconic camp.
Early December and it is quiet and 1/4 full. Later in the month and over summer it could be vbusy. The camp office and manager are fantastic along with the amazing sunsets. The facilities are older but clean and tidy. Dog friendly at this time. Can't wait to come back

First night’s stay in New Zealand, we had a great view of the sea from our spot and was perfect for a swim in the morning!
We were woken up at around 7-8 as the owner’s 1950s tractor came past, not the end of the world. Nice dog followed him around the whole time, which was great to watch. Lovely walk directly above the campsite into the forest. We also walked to the next beach, but just found a load of drunks who were freedom camping, we swiftly heading back. Would recommend site.

We loved this place.
Had a tent site on a level higher than the caravan city. Beautiful bays to explore on hire paddle boards. Saw some beautiful stingrays around the bay from Tucks bay. Deserted bay for a private swim. The best part was the 1000 year old Kauri Pine 15 minutes walk up the hill. What an amazing tree!!
Wish we hadn’t headed of to the Bay of Islands, wish we’d just stayed here.

Stayed here for 2 nights during late August.
Very clean. Quite quiet this time of year which we preferred. $15p/p for a powered site was reasonable. 50c for 5 minute shower. Kitchen and bathrooms both clean and to a good standard. Good walks near by. Highly recommend.

We had planned to stay at NZMCA campground but left and came here.
Office was lovely to deal with. Dog friendly. Nice wee bush walk to huge Kauri tree. Check tides if you want to swim as it was out when we were there in the evening and out again in the morning.
Paid showers but clean and toilets good. Price ok at $22 per person.
Nice flat site can also go over the hill to next camp only long drop but not overcrowded owned same people.

The view is nice, but the site is rather expensive and you have to pay extra for hot showers.
The sites are all very close to each other. No privacy. The place is also open for public parking. Facilities are not very clean and people do not seem to care very much. There is this guy from the campsite cruising around on his quad across occupied spots without actually doing anything useful. We placed our tent here and headed of to the peninsula for a day trip. When we came back someone obviously hit our tent and broke it. We asked around but nobody knew anything about it. My guess would be the guy with his quad . If you are not here for fishing I would avoid staying here.

Wow
You came back and your tent had ripped so you blamed everyone else but yourselves, you even tried blaming me in the shop that it was my fault that I had not kept an eye on your tent. The gentleman driving around on the quad is the owner, he works 18 hours a day 7 days a week. (while you do nothing). The camp ground is spotless and has a great atmosphere with great people - the toilets you used would have been the public toilets and not the camp toilets / showers. Assumptions that people do not care very much is not nice but this review of yours is not nice which shows your character. Peak period $25 per person is below average for this time of the year. Don't come back we only have nice people staying here.
Hi its Des here the guy with the quad, yep I ride my quad around the camp picking up rubbish tiding up the place, escorting people to their sites and preparing them for the next occupants. I work very hard at trying to keep my part of this country clean, I find it offensive that you even suggest that it was me. Basically you headed out for the day the wind blew and your small tent ripped, you questioned me and stated that you had used this tent through your stay and why would it rip and someone must have done it, I found your comments at the time odd and your attitude rather extreme, I usually don't respond to reviews but this required a response from me personally, I'm sorry but you are odd!!!

It's a nice spot right at the ocean.
You can chose the pitch if enough space. We had a direct view on the beach/ocean. The beach is soso: Stones, rocks and shells. No real sandy beach. But we and our son (4) enjoyed it anyway. Nice sunset. Small playground, small coffee shop with small range of fast food too; facilities as showers (.50$)/toilets old fashion but ok. A bit far away depends where your camper stands. Laundry and kitchen/ lounge clean. It's a very local motor camp with a lot of local families, a few cabins and some permanent campers. Very busy during the day because it has a boat ramp. Very independent, nice location if you like nature. Walking to town, for us too far... ~3km. You can hire kayaks at the site.

Friendly place right on the beach run by a nice couple.
Good kitchen facilities with plenty of pans and utensils, a small TV lounge and clean showers ($0.50) and toilets. there is a well stocked shop for essentials. Only gripe I had was that after putting the coin in for a shower the water never got hot but fortunately the weather was nice!
