    Perfectly clean and tidy camp.

Note that if you have a dog you will not be on the upper sites, but still a peek of the lake.

The trucks were present, but not too bad. Would be worse on the laleside units.

Booked a lakeside plot for an afternoon/night stay hoping to get some views on the drive down to Wellington.

Got powered site 4 which was next to a shipping container up against the motorway crash barrier and too far from the power source (one pylon between 4 sites) and right at the end of the park. Seemed to be the only bit of the lake portion of the camp where the sites go 4 deep. Overall the lake area of the camp was not that pleasant IMO. I knew about the noise but the sheer proximity of site 4 was a bit worrying definitely the closest one I saw. The lady at the desk (which you cross SH1 to visit!) was lovely tried to find a longer cable but due to overhanging trees restricting the site wouldn’t even reach and she kindly moved us to a hill site on the other side of the road that was very nice but a bit tricky to get a 7.7m 6 berth into as the road is quite narrow. The noise on the hillside sites was fine although in the guest section we were in a lot of people used as a thoroughfare. Facilities very nice great selection of DVD to borrow. Only issue was ratio of washers to dryers at our laundry so a big line of wet clothes bags with 4 bucks on them. Again can’t fault the staff they were lovely but if you get site 4 just politely ask to move it looked like a last minute add on to the plan anyway and they didn’t look surprised when I asked!

The best common room we have seen!

Ping pong table, pool table, video projector with the possibility to rent a dvd at the reception. For a rainy day it's perfect. The lady at the reception was very nice, the bathrooms and kitchen super clean

Lovely site, stayed right on the lake front in a powered site.

Showers were fabulous and toilets very clean. Kitchen was well set up with complimentary washing up liquid, dish brush and tea towels. Watch out for the swan poo! There are lots of ducks about too. Great place for skimming stones.

Unfortunately State Highway 1 is right there too and lots of trucks rumble through the night; not great if you are a light sleeper.

Hello and thank you for your review Kiwi Cypriot Family. We're super happy that you have enjoyed your stay with us. Yes, pity the swans can't take their body functions elsewhere, we wish they would too!! We provide earplugs for free at reception as we know that the highway can affect light sleepers. I am hoping these were offered to you when you checked in. Once again, thank you for taking the time to write your review and we hope to see you again soon.

The only good thing about this site is the view across the lake.

We paid for 2 nights but stayed only one because of the incessant traffic noise on SH1. Hardly slept at all. Perhaps pitches up the hillside would be quieter.

    Reviewed over 1 year ago

Hello Ron and thank you for your review. Due to road closures after the cyclone, the highway has been busier than ever past the park. I'm sorry this has had a negative effect on your stay and this will die down once the traffic decreases to normal. We do still have traffic under normal circumstances however not like it has been. Appreciate you taking the time to review and wishing you safe and happy travels.

We stayed here with our two little dogs using a powered site.

It’s a little further down from Taupo city centre but location is great as well as the value. Big spacious grounds, we were in a dog friendly zone (a little off from the lakefront) and didn’t hear any noise that disrupted our sleep. Free, warm shower with the water pressure so good it feels like a massage! Kitchen was clean and well equipped. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

Thank you for your candid review of our park and we're pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. Whilst it is very unfortunate that the park is located where it is some positive action is being taken by New Zealand Traffic Authority. There is a review of speed limits happening around Lake Taupo and you are invited to provide feedback. The feedback received during this engagement phase will help inform the decisions the NZ Transport Agency make on the final proposed changes. They are proposing a reduction in speed limit from 100 to 60 and we support this as we believe this not only be safer but will reduce the noise impact on the park. If you'd like to support this, please have your say by following this link: https://nzta.govt.nz/projects/sh1-taupo-airport-to-motuoapa/have-your-say/

We do have the highway run between the two sides of the holiday park... giving us Hillside and Lakeside options for caravans and campers. We're sorry that you did not have a restful stay with us and as much as we would love to move this road we, unfortunately, can't. For those that are more aware of the noise around them, we recommend the Hillside sites as they are further away from the road and reception have a supply of earplugs that are complimentary for the light sleeper. Thank you for sharing your experience with us and we appreciate your feedback.

In my opinion this is not a place for tents.

The only good thing about this place it is the view; you can be near to the beautiful lake, landscape is amazing, but the kitchen is not well equipped, kitchen it is too small however, bathrooms are clean and water is warm. The WORST thing it’s the noise all night and all day. Camping site it is near to the way, and big trucks and cars are passing all night. I could not sleep because of the noise. This takes away a lot of value to the place which is quite expensive. I couldn’t rest that the worst.
