  • Lovely small site right next to the water.

Host was very friendly with advice on where to go. Showers not on a timer which is always a plus.

  • Absolutely lovely camp with super nice manager.

Broke down with our car here over weekend and holiday, he was very understanding and we could stay some more nights without any problems. Nice facilities too, got showers for free and wifi. Would highly recommend and always come back for a stay.

  • Stayed on a powered site for one night.

2 adults, 2 kids, 2 dogs..owner wanted to charge $25 per person $15 per kid + can’t remember how much for the dogs, we were the only ones there so said no way & he waived the kid & dog cost. The camping sites are in the centre while the permanent sites wrap around the camp ground in a circle..looking at the campground. But no one was there so privacy for us in Autumn. The toilets & showers reminded me of old pool changing rooms, tired and could feel cleaner but good enough nonetheless & water free & hot! Washing machines $6! Kitchen good set up. Great recycling set up but not much space for general rubbish. Dump station good but on the driveway that is on a good lean so didn’t get to empty completely. Owner was great, had lots of tips for staying including checking out Ocean Beach road where you dig a hole in the sand to have your own hot water pool. That was a highlight! They had a trampoline for the kids. There is one little dairy nearby plus a lovely restaurant Sands of Kawhia.

  • Absolutley loved this campsite.

Grant thw owner is so nice, has heeps of tips what to do and is always up for a chat when you need something. Stayed here for a week over the time the cyclone hit and also stayed in a cabin for two nights due to that. Clean facilities, everything you need. Really good free wifi, huge sites for a tent or van. Grassy and very well maintained. Power and water on every site. 20$ a night. Beach within walking distance (small beach), hot water beach is a 5min drive. Do stock up on grocieres before. The gas station and general store have the most important items, but of course varitey is small. Bakery is very good and the town center is a nice walk along the beach/ coastline). Would highly recommend!

  • HEAVEN.

One night in an RV and such a warm welcome, with free spades to borrow for the hot water beach (an absolute must.)

The beach is a short and scenic drive away. Low tide was 4am so we got to the beach around 5:30am which was plenty of time to enjoy the hot water before the tide crept in. We had the entire beach to ourselves in late Feb.

Toilets and showers: very clean, old school concrete with a long drain. Hot and powerful.

Atmosphere: warm and friendly. Enough space for privacy but a cosy site full of old school Kiwi campers giving this spot their seal of approval.

The drive: we drove up late during a dramatic sunset and left in the morning with stunning views all around us.

We’ve camped all over the north and south and this camp is definitely in my top five. Thank you!

  • This is a great place, in our opinion by far the best campsite in town!

Such a warm, friendly owner giving us interesting and useful information about the area and the Hot Water Beach. Spacious and everything there, clean and nice, calm atmosphere. (We were there in the first days of December, not peak season). I don’t understand how someone can give a rating of 4 for the reason of the campsite not being in walking distance to the Hot Water Beach. That is obvious for anyone able to read a map. There is no campsite next to it. We borrowed the spades from the owner for free. Overall just positive and nice.
