Information

Puketi Nature Trail

Time: 1 hr return Distance: 1.6 km

This easy wander around a loop track begins at the Puketi Recreation Area and leads you through a beautiful kauri forest. This walk provides a good experience for those wanting to learn more about New Zealand’s native plants, as many of the plants you see along the way are named.

If you go walking in the evening, you may be treated to a display from the local glow-worms when you get to the first of the track's boardwalks.

The lower part of the track has an impressive stand of mature kahikatea as well as a diverse range of mosses and epiphytes. At the furthest point of the loop track, take time at the viewing platform to enjoy the grove of mature kauri trees.

Well formed track, easily navigable even at night with minimal light.

Sadly did not see any glowworms

The forest is extremely beautiful and the track leads through a very nice part of it.

Also it was just the right length and was not too difficult.

The forest was very beautiful and huge.

The trail itself was easy to walk and not too long. The only negative aspect was that there were different trails and no markers, so on the Puketi Nature Trail it was not always clear which way to go.

Huge trees and ferns, birds are singing all around the accessible way.

We liked also the shoe cleaning station at the entrance.
