Small helicopters with perfect view.
Not very expensive. The skilled pilots knew also a lot about the whales and the environment. Saw two sperm whales.

We had an amazing experience with Kaikoura Helicopters.
We saw a Sperm Whale surface for about 10 minutes - and then take a huge dive. The views from the helicopter were worth the trip alone.

Very good way to see the whales, quicker than boat, good view of the whales without (we hope) disturbing them, price was reasonable.

We didn't see any sea life at all!
Some honest statistics about how often the whales are spotted would have helped us make an informed decision as it was really expensive.
