I hired a year 2000 Toyota Hiace petrol manual campervan from Cruzy Campers to travel around parts of the South Island from the 28th December 2019 to 10th January 2020.

The hire cost was NZD$1,960 and the cost of the 351 litres of unleaded petrol I used to travel 3,020km was NZD$761.23. This gave the Hiace an 11.65 litres/100km efficiency. The cost of 91 unleaded petrol ranged from NZD$2.02/l (Christchurch) to NZD$2.459 (in Queenstown!) with an average cost of NZD$2.17/l.

Daniel was great - he delivered the van to my Airbnb in the morning, explained where everything in the van was and how everything worked. The interior of the van isn't the flashest but is still in good condition. Daniel had fitted new tyres for my trip and the motor didn't miss a beat especially when traversing some of the passes east to west and vice versa. There were four issues that I let Daniel know about when I returned the van (once again, Daniel was very punctual for the pick up and drop off at the airport) - (1) the driver's door didn't always latch properly and the red alert light on the dash would subsequently sometimes flash (2) there was a terrible smell coming from under the sink whenever I opened the cupboard door - I used some air freshener to mask the smell throughout my trip (3) there was only one night of rain during my trip (in Wanaka), and at 3am I was woken with water splashing on my face and pillow (probably no more than a cupfull) - the airvent above the bed was definitely securely closed and I couldn't determine how this water actually leaked through the vent (4) the fridge door seal had an air gap at the very top - fortunately, this didn't seem to affect the fridge performance, probably just meant it ran a lot longer than it needed to! The van had a complete inventory of bedding, cooking appliances and utensils and true to Daniel's word, there were no hidden extras to pay at the end of the trip.

Cruzy was great!

Kylie and Daniel were prompt with communication and were just lovely in general. The campervan gave us no problems throughout our trip and our 3yo loved his cozy little berth up top.

Kylie met us at the airport which was so convenient and dropped us off afterwards... It was just a little thing but it meant a lot to us so we didn't have to worry about taxis and car seats for our little guy.

Our LO loved sitting up front with us, and since the campervan is small, it fits in a regular parking space which is really convenient.

The van is well stocked, and had everything we needed. The heater was especially appreciated on those cold Spring nights in the mountains.

I loved supporting a family business and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Cruzy!!

My partner and i hired one of the hi top hiace campers and had a great time exploring the south island, the owners are lovely people very helpful and friendly, the campers have a little age on them and

show a little wear and tear but are well maintained and mechanically solid and reliable, i would highly recommend cruzy campers and will definetly use again when i get the chance to explre NZ again

Had the pleasure of renting a Cruzy Camper for 3 weeks at the end of 2018 for a trip around the South Island.

My girlfriend and I met Daniel in Christchurch, who gave us an incredibly helpful and comprehensive overview of the van. The van itself (Sherpy) was great, well maintained, and gave us no hiccups throughout our duration in NZ. We took it up some fairly steep roads, as well as dirt roads and experienced plenty of varying weather conditions and it was a treat to drive throughout. Inside was comfortable for the two of us and provided a lovely respite after long days of sightseeing/hiking.

Daniel and Kylie were above and beyond helpful, always prompt with responding to emails with a warm and friendly tone that seemed more like friends helping people out rather than speaking to a 'consultant' that is to be expected from larger corporations. We had one minor issue towards the end and Daniel was on the phone with us, helping us through the situation with both friendliness and professionalism. They seem to be more concerned that their clients are having a good time, which to me seems to fall inline with the general hospitality that we found throughout New Zealand. They even spent some time with us once we dropped off the van, and we shared stories with one another it was a lovely way to cap off an otherwise amazing trip to NZ.

Cannot recommend them more as a company to go through, for both the service they offer and their manner in providing it.

The service of Cruzy Campers is great, everything we wanted was included in the price.

We didn’t have to pay extra for km. Although the campervan was reasonably old it worked perfectly.
