5.0/5
Good organised site near the crossing and main walks.
There's very little else around so this is really very useful and complaints about the price seem a bit unreasonable. Fairly big and well organised site. We stayed in a powered van, pleanty of space and freedom to choose where, good facilities. They happily arranged shuttles and searched for my wife on the site when I tried to phone her from the crossing

Fair price for the transport.
We got a lot of information about the Tongariro Alpine Crossing regarding fitness, safety, clothing etc. to decide if we want to do the crossing. If you decide not to do the crossing at the starting point (after the first transfer) you get your money back, which is really fair.

I did the Tongariro Crossing with Discovery.
They had to convince me to go on the early bus which leaves at 5:45am. That was not easy because I am not an early morning person. However when I do the Crossing again I will definitely go early again. We saw the most amazing sun rise and the mountains are so beautiful and peaceful and quiet in the morning. We were at the bleu lakes with hardly anyone around so we got some amazing pictures. And it is just unbelievable how busy it gets later on. Hundreds of people must have been behind us on the track.
The five pick ups in the afternoon were also great because it meant that we didn't have to wait for hours in the hot sun (like lots of other people) to be picked up at the end. What a great service.

Very friendly people who will give you lots of information.
The best way to go for the Tongariro crossing. They drop you off before the other buses arrive at the start and they have 2 pick up options at the end of the day.

Very nice track, people in Matai Shuttles also very nice and helpful. They even managed to arrange lovely weather. Only the return journy was a somewhat unpleasant as we had to squeeze into a small shuttle with very little leg space. Anyway - thank you

We only had to pay for the transport. Rest were free but the park was beautiful. I wasent allowed to climb a volcano but I did and was to late. And the hot bus driver had to wait and wasent very happy. But I thought it was worth it.

The Tongariro Crossing was one of our best days during our NZ tour (N+S islands).
Staying at Discovery Lodge (at the campsite) and using their early morning transport added to the experience. Watching the sunrise as we climbed the saddle, having the place to ourselves for the whole crossing and enjoying a beer at 2pm back at the site made the whole day absolutely brilliant.
Small improvements to the showers would earn a 10/10 for sure.
