Highly recommend hiring through Kiwi Motorhomes.

Owners are friendly, welcoming with fantastic customer service.

The motorhome we hired was well maintained and equipped. The heating was prefect for keeping us warm and cosy during winter on the North Island while freedom camping.

A very enjoyable experience, thanks Kiwi Motorhomes.

    Great experience with Kiwi Motorhomes.

    Highly recommended.

We had booked our 12-30 March 23 trip last March but Leon and Varnier, the owners, answered any queries I had promptly. This personal service continued throughout: RV pick up on a Sunday (lots of companies are closed on Sundays); drop off /pick up from airport/hotel; lots of extras provided, including camping chairs, mountain bikes, DVDs and even salt & pepper; prompt responses by whatsapp to queries during the hire; and personal handover by Leon and Varnier. We have rented RVs in the US, Canada and Oz from big name companies but a family owned business provides the extra touch. It felt like saying good bye to old friends yesterday when we returned the van to them.

We may have paid a bit more than going through other companies because we got the last RV available - a 6 berth, but the flexibility, service and extras included made it worthwhile. Well worth checking them out.

We have just returned from an amazing motorhome holiday of the central North Island!!

We cannot wait for our next motorhome adventure!

We have rented several motorhomes over recent years from different companies and can whole heartedly say that this rental through Leon & Varnier of Kiwi Motorhomes was the best experience and service we have had. From the first website enquiry to questions while on the road and the eventual key drop off on the final day, Leon & Varnier were awesome to deal with and always left us feeling that they genuinely cared about our holiday adventure. As an extra bonus they welcomed us bringing our two dogs along for the holiday which was the icing on the cake for us. Thank you Leon & Varnier, we will definitely be renting through you again. A first class motorhome and holiday experience!!

We had the pleasure of taking “the Nate” on a mini north island tour during the cooler winter months.

Despite freezing temperature “the Nates” high quality meant that we stayed warm and cozy inside. The camper was very spacious and comfortable with 3 young children making it a very enjoyable holiday.

The entire process of the hire to pick up and drop off was extremely easy and care free. We can not recommend this service enough.

Had an amazing holiday around the East Cape with my Mum.

Although we were first timers we felt supported by being able to contact Leon and Varnier when things came up. To stop and start when you want is a fantastic way to see the country and experience the people in these places.

We’ve just experienced 3 weeks traveling in Little Pete to Nelson area during mid winter.

This motorhome was extremely warm, spacious and comfortable with many extras. Drop off and pick up from our home in Christchurch was a bonus and Pieter and Melissa were so lovely to deal with and fully explained all the workings of the motorhome. We would thoroughly recommend booking with Kiwi Motorhomes and will use again in the future.

We couldn't have asked for an easier process from booking through to drop off and the motorhome itself was amazing. Thank you for helping us have a very memorable and special holiday. Ngā mihi mahana.

We hired the van which (on pickup) we learnt is called Jordy - our son's name!

So we were off to a great start.😉

We travel extensively, but this was our first motorhome adventure. We appreciated the collection from Auckland airport and comprehensive practical advice on pick up. The van is very comfortable for two people and came fully equipped- including the extra e-bikes we booked (well worth it). Bed was extra comfy which was a pleasant surprise.

We spent 7 nights touring the Far North of NZ out of season and it was fantastic. Cycling, walking, kiwi hunting and (just!) warm enough for sea swimming. Excellent food and wine too.

Leon and Varnier were helpful, kind and friendly - highly recommend Kiwi Motorhomes.

Based on various travelers stories of renting RVs in New Zealand and dealing with issues ranging from driving on the "wrong" side of the road with jet lag to breakdowns ruining vacations we were trepidatious

to say the least. We found Kiwi Motorhomes at the last moment, after countless interactions with other companies that were out of stock or too expensive or charged for every extra. I wish we could have discovered Kiwi from the beginning and saved ourselves all the hassle of dealing with the others.

Renting from Leon and Varnier was like borrowing a vehicle from old friends. They picked us up from the airport, gave us a thorough rundown of how everything worked and were kind enough to include all the "extras". They were there every step of the way if we had any questions or concerns about how things worked with "Maggie".

Maggie performed flawlessly and she got us everywhere we needed to go. Planning a return to to NZ to see the South Island next time and will definitely be hitting them up again.

I chose Kiwi Motorhomes based on their stellar reviews, but ended up very disappointed with my choice as we had so many issues with their service and van during our 3-week holiday.

Day 1 - When we picked up the van, 3 items that had been agreed to via our contract (GPS system, bottle of wine and extension cord) were not provided. When I reserved the campervan, I was told we could get an extension cord for my husband’s CPAP – a medical device. When we picked up the van we were told that an extension cord is not allowed. If I had known this when I reserved, I would have chosen another campervan. We ended up buying an extension cord. Hayley did find a bottle of wine for us. Evidently, they don’t offer wine anymore, but it was on my quote and on the signed contract. The final issue at pick-up was that the freedom camping certificate had expired. We had to wait 3 hours for the inspector to recertify the campervan.

Day 2-4, we had transmission problems. The automatic van seemed to not want to downshift, and slowed us to a stop on the highway. We eventually figured out how to manually coax it into a lower gear.

Day 3 – the WiFi hotspot stopped due to a broken soldered joint on the 12V connector. My husband was able to fix the broken connection.

Day 13 – Check engine light came on. KMH helped to call auto repair shops to read the error code. Unfortunately, none of the shops had availability for at least 3 weeks, so we made a joint decision that the risk was probably low and we would continue on.

Day 14 – CO detector batteries started chirping in the night. We bought new batteries and were back up and running.

Day 17 – The check brake pad light came on as we were winding our way up and down Arthur’s Pass. Very nerve wracking.

Also, the DVD player in the bedroom didn’t work and the windshield wiper on the driver side was shredded.

At this point, I am hesitant to ever rent another campervan, let alone recommend Kiwi Motorhomes to anyone else.

Disappointing and certainly not worth the $500+ (nzd) PER DAY that we paid.

When we collected the motorhome (Aria) from Hayley in Christchurch there were a number of issues that were picked up, some of which apparently existed prior to the previous rental (according to Hayley). We were not notified of any of these issues prior to pick up, nor given the option of another motorhome. The major issues were:

    No reversing camera, even though the spec’s clearly stated that there was a colour reversing camera. The main reason we agreed to hire Aria was the reversing camera;

    Neither the satellite nor the television worked, even though we had indicated that we wanted to watch tv/dvd’s;

There was a screw missing for the middle support pole for the awning, which prevented us from using the awning in case of further damage (which we would have been held accountable for); The holding latch for the side door did not work so the door would not stay open.

Hayley tried to assist with fixing some of these issues but could not, so advised us to contact Varnier (one of the owners I believe). We sent an email outlining these issues and asking for advice the day after we collected the motorhome. Unfortunately no one bothered to respond to this email. We waited 6 days then sent a WhatsApp message to Varnier asking for a response to our email. Again, nobody bothered to reply. To date we have received no response to either the email or the WhatsApp message. The only correspondence we received during the duration of our hire was a request to pay the bond, which we had already paid, as requested, a week before we collected the motorhome. After returning the motorhome and having it signed off with no further damage, we were advised that the refund of the bond would be processed in a week. Unfortunately we have had to wait 3 weeks and send numerous emails before receiving our bond back.

Kiwi Motorhomes are a 'small family run' company which was initially very appealing to us.

We chose to hire two new, more expensive, self contained motorhomes at a cost of approx NZ$18000, so we could adventure at will!

They could not supply the two vans we ordered, replacing one with a slightly older vehicle, which later we discovered had animals hairs (which we had not ordered!) on upholstery. My wife purchased items to remove these. In addition, whilst travelling through NZ, a plastic fridge vent blew off the outside of the van. There was no damage to the bodywork of the van suggesting any reckless driving (as confirmed when handed back).

The company could not supply a replacement vent/van except in Christchurch, which was our dropping off point a week later, advising us to cover the vent until then.

Purchased materials at our own cost to do this.Advised by experienced motorhomers en route that this was a risky thing to do and the vent/van should have been replaced asap.

Obviously Kiwi Motorhomes do not have an aftersales network across NZ to do this.

When returning my 'bond' Kiwi Motorhomes deducted NZ$120, the cost of the replacement vent!

I was extremely disappointed with their 'penny pinching" attitude, having spent such a large amount of money on rental. I emailed to explain my view on the vent and to explain that there was no obvious damage to suggest bad driving etc but still no reply! It seems as though once they have your money the care and kindness stops. In summary, I would recommend to ALWAYS use a large motorhome hire company which has the capability to resolve en route problems, however small or large they may be.

Hired one of Kiwi Motorhomes motorhomes for a 8 day trip around Northland in April/May ‘21.

They were fantastic to deal with and did the handover and motorhome rundown after picking us up at the airport. The motorhome was super clean and in great condition. Over the 8 days it didn’t miss a beat, was easy to drive and surprisingly comfortable. I would not hesitate in using Kiwi Motorhomes again and highly recommend them.
