I felt I had to give a review after my recent experience on the Christchurch to Picton service.

A very good service overall but what impressed me the most was the care of the driver. As it was evening and dark, he was very particular in making sure that his passengers, especially females that were travelling alone, were dropped off in a safe environment. As an older female I very much appreciated it as I am sure the younger female did too. Thank you.

Had a booking two weeks in advance that was cancelled just over 24hrs before my bus.

Wish I could give them 0 stars,

I’m saying 24hrs but that’s only because my bus was at 5:30pm and they cancelled 3:30pm the day before - it’s more like less than 24hrs before most other options for travel. This bus was to get me to the airport to catch my flight home to Canada. Called them to try and figure it out, they wouldn’t tell me why the bus was cancelled, they didn’t seem to care that there were almost 0 other options for me to make it back to the airport, and they couldn’t put me in contact with any of the bus companies that they hire from. I eventually spoke to someone who told me that even if I did contact the bus companies I would just be calling the same call center, even though I was told that the bus company were the ones who cancelled which doesn’t make any sense. The only other available option is a bus 40$ more expensive per person (we are 2) and they wouldn’t provide any extra compensation even though they are clearly not paying a bus driver or bus company for that day.

They didn’t even have any recommendations or options for other possible busses, like at least be ready to help people find another way if you’re going to cancel their bus on such short notice

Very disappointing service, not very pleasant to deal with, and extremely inconsiderate.

Book first with any other alternative PLEASE!

I am an elderly lady with walking difficulties and he helped me on and off the bus (the steps are rather high) and when the bus was diverted due to an accident at the taupo stop it was too far for me to carry on so rang my daughter who came to pick me up, she lives in Taupo and drove me home the next day. the driver made sure I was picked up and not left stranded, I was greatly impressed, please thank him for me . would definitely travel inter city again.

I travelled to Auckland via Intercity on the 1.3.20 (from Westshore, Napier), returning to the (Westshore, Napier) on the evening of 8.3.20.

I was very impressed with the Bus Driver (Ngaio), who was bright and very helpful all the way through to Manukau where we changed Drivers.

Ngaio kept us fully informed along the way with her bright and efficient manner, and was very clear and concise with instructions.

I felt Ngaio really built your Intercity Service up and I was impressed.

When we changed Drivers at Manukau, the Driver failed to introduce himself and no other information (ie when we would be likely to arrive in Auckland as we were running late. Even no mention of the importance of wearing seat belts). The Driver just got into his Drivers seat and off we went. He did however inform the passengers of the approaching stops from Manukau and was nicely spoken.

On the return journey from Auckland Central , I experienced very much the same.

When we stopped at Manukau, another Driver came on board.

His name was Jamie and he was excellent, with introducing himself and informed the passengers about wearing the seat belts provided.

He gave really good instructions, was very bright and friendly and again was very helpful to the passengers.

I felt both Jamie and Ngaio were an asset to your Organisation.

I am making these comments, not to be critical but to encourage your Organisation.

if I could give a 0 I would, I travelled from Auckland to Ruakaka and Ruakaka to Auckland, all booked through their website which stated this was all possible.

The first bus was half an hour late, the second bus I got a message a day before my trip saying they could no longer pick me up from Ruakaka. Stated there was roadworks, but no roadworks in sight! I had been dropped off there less than 12 hours earlier with no issues. I was then waiting on the phone for half an hour to speak to them, the operator knew nothing and the only option for me was to drive an extra 40 minutes outside of my way to get to a city in the opposite direction to where I needed to go to catch the bus at the earlier time. Absolutely ridiculous.

I used to enjoy traveling NZ on this service and always recommended it to overseas visitors but never again 2022 onwards.

It's a victim of it's monopoly. I booked a trip from a pickup point at Flathills cafe that ,surprisingly, doesnt open on Tuesdays. Intercity took my booking took my money but forgot to mention Tuesdays is a no goer. So I arrived at a closed gate, called the cafe operator and was informed that I had to go to Taihape instead. Couldn't do that so I missed the bus. Naturally being super annoyed I contacted the Wellington number got a friendly but duh operator who escalated my complaint to an arrogant argumentative supervisor. This person clearly wants to be right all the time and told me unless Intercity calls me, the service still runs.Wow and here I was thinking mind reading was so last century. He kept arguing with me to make his point and hit his zero refund quote fir the day. GREAT customer services skills! well done Intercity as a company you have successfully gone backwards in service now that the country has reopened. Drive, walk, fly, swim, skateboard, cycle, ski do whatever you can so as not to experience and pay for this kind of garbage service.

Would be zero if I could make it that.

Overloaded buses to the point passengers are sitting on the floor, moved to a bus with broken aircon and literally no ventilation. Gets to the point that the windscreen is so fogged the drivers swerving all over the road, to the point a passenger wipes it down for fear for our safety. She drove like this for a solid 3-4 hours with people sweating their asses off. Don’t risk it, especially if it’s a long haul journey, this company is a nightmare

Intercity is good when all goes to plan; but of things go awry- don't expect support, customer service or any kind of follow up.

As a frequent traveler with intercity- I am unimpressed with my recent experience!

My last trip from Wellington to Palmerston North was delayed 2 hours - with no time frame given with which to expect a bus despite calling and emailing. 2 hours outside in the cold with no bus in sight or constructive comms meant that I did not even have the option to go inside and get warm or even go to the toilet for fear of missing the bus. This then was compounded by the bus having no working toilet. Oh the joy's.

I would like to mention however that the replacement bus driver was lovely, professional and did his best to remedy a horrid trip. His management of a disorderly passenger was to be commended.

Ultimately however, my experience was uncomfortable, frustrating and all around disappointing and lacking. Not even a partial refund offered for the delay.

Most unprofessional arrogant driver made this a truly crap customer experience. Our driver Tracy actually yelled at me while loading up the bus as soon as I arrived which was a lovely start to a 4 and a half hour ride. She also yelled nastily at her other passengers several times during our journey for such sins as asking whether wifi was available, (we were parked) and at a later stop she screamed at a poor woman who asked whether she could use the toilet when we were dropping off passengers. I was very shocked at her outrageous rudeness and bad attitude. I won't be travelling with Intercity again.

Bus finally arrives in Hamilton and the driver actually yelled at people over their luggage and seemed harsher to the Asian travelers than others. He was an absolute jerk. Then he sat and smoked until noon, so 35 minutes late. Then he made two unscheduled stops, including a stop for gas. I was an hour late to the airport. Inter City bus trip from Picton to Nelson ...

terrible. The seats were too small and hard. I am 5'10" tall and there was NO legroom between my knees and the rear of the seat in front of me. Eventually I had such bad cramp that I was forced to stand up and walk down to the rear seats. Despite wearing a seat belt hubby and I were tossed around like corks on a rough sea. Literally thrown from side to side, backwards and forwards. Conversation was out of the question. He huddled up in the one corner of the rear seats, I huddled up in the other corner of the rear seats ... both clinging on to anything we could to try and stop the constant tossing around of our respective bodies. I was honestly sore when I got off that vehicle but do not blame the driver at all who was careful throughout the journey. Rather, it is the vehicle itself that is not appropriate for the route it takes, round and round, up and down through the mountain roads seemingly with little or no suspension to protect passengers from the twists, turns, bumps, etc. I also noticed with concern that at three places on the right side windows there are devices that can be used to break open those windows from inside the bus but none of the same devices on the left side. In some places you are extremely high up with the valleys very far down on your left, with the bus wheels having an extremely worrying amount of space to manouevre on the left verge which is virtually non-existent. God forbid that a bus should ever go over the edge ...

Definitely would never use this service again.
