    BRC car hire provided an exceptional service and when we had a problem with a ferry cancellation both the Auckland and the Christchurch team were so helpful.

    I needed a cheap car for a few days and got exactly what I was expecting.

    Staff was very friendly and the booking was easy.

    My partner and I had a great experience with Bargain Rental Cars - Auckland Airport from booking to drop-off.

    Our arrival into Auckland was delayed by a day due to a flight cancellation. A quick phone call to their office to notify them of our new pick-up date and time was handled both amicably and professionally.

    The "Commuter Super Saver" with "Bronze" insurance plan was extremely low-cost and suited the needs of our 3-day stay in Auckland. The provided car was as expected per its category, a 2005 Mazda Demio beginning to show its age, but it reliably got us around with no issues. Drop-off was a breeze and the immediately available complimentary shuttle to the airport removed all stress.

    If our stay in Auckland were longer with further outbound day-trips we would consider the other car category and insurance options. We recommend BRC - Auckland Airport and would more than likely be using their services again.

    This has been one of the worst travel experiences of my life.

    To make matters worse, this happened during our honeymoon and too often took the focus off celebrating our relationship. The following is a recount of all our issues we had with their vehicles since we stepped foot in New Zealand.

    We returned the first car after the first night solely because we didn’t feel safe driving it to our hotel from the airport. It smelled. The windshield was smeared and affected the visibility especially during the rain. I couldn’t read the instrument panel because of moisture that had fogged up inside the panel. This also led to their staff not noticing the gas tank wasn’t full as I had to put in $35 worth of gas when I returned it after my one trip to our hotel and back.

    After we arrived at our hotel, we coordinated switching out the car via email with the support staff. They seemed helpful as they gave us a make and model to switch out the next day. Unfortunately, they didn’t communicate that with the branch and it took 2 hours on site to get a new vehicle.

    The second vehicle we received was better but not by much. It also had limited visibility of the instrument panel but we took it to get our trip under way. During the course of the trip we discovered that the A/C unit only worked periodically. The brakes need servicing and make a god awful, embarrassing shriek throughout the journey. Never failed to make the noise when pulling up to a hotel valet as we caught the attention of everybody in ear shot. It was quite embarrassing. Finally, the car didn’t start one morning. We called the AA number and the technician came out and discovered our key fob battery had died. He didn’t have a replacement so he rigged two batteries together that could barely get the car started. I ended up having to purchase the correct battery later on because we were so worried the car was going to leave us stranded.

    I returned the vehicle a day early. I got $150US for my troubles.

    Bargain charged me $136 per day not including insurance and after I paid they said they were straggling to find me a vehicle and would manual or another pick up location be ok.

    I agreed, when I went to pick up the car it was a 2006, 240,000 on the clock and every panel was dinted, he even apologised when he gave it to me. I continued my trip although messaging them saying I have concerns about this vehicle.

    When asking about the value for money spent, they pretty much said to bad to sad and stopped replying to my messages.

    I then got a car through mode and couldn’t be more impressed with them, they have great customer service, value for money and cars in safe, roadworthy condition

    I live in Australia and I plan to visit New Zealand in April 2023.

    Recently (09/01/23) I booked a hire car through Bargain Rental Cars in Auckland for 4 days beginning 08/04/23. The cost of AUD $1386 was deducted from my credit card almost immediately I completed the booking. When I decided to cancel the booking within 12 hours I was entitled to a full refund as stipulated in the Terms and Conditions. BRC said this would take 5 to 14 business days. On the 11th business day the money was refunded but due to currency conversion fees I was AUD$58 out of pocket. I raised this matter with BRC requesting a refund on the currency conversion cost as I believe they should not have debited my credit card until I actually picked up the hire car. (The usual practice) This was a totally avoidable expense I incurred. I received NO reply to my emails from BRC. This is a warning to other travellers to avoid this company if you intend to book a car online from over seas. If you do you will be hit with currency conversion costs that you will not be able to recover if you decide to cancel. The practice of BRC immediately debiting your credit/debit card will also mean your bank balance will show a cost even though the service might be well into the future

    My plane was delayed 2 hours, I rang them and informed them.

    They assured me their pick up was 24 hours. I placed 22 calls between 0130-0730 before a pick up was finally sorted. Then took 17 business days to process and return my bond. Terrible experience

    I can’t recommend this company.

    Our booking was cancelled while we were on the plane to Auckland so when we arrived, we were at the airport for 2 hours before being picked up by BRC promising us a car (their office is not at the airport). The car had never been rented before - only because it had just arrived off the ship from Japan, grazed on every corner and technology in Japanese so we couldn’t use the display the whole trip. The car manual also in Japanese (is that legal?). Most of their cars are stuck in Japanese, was the excuse.
